NEED HELP! Is club champion ripping me off and does E0 swing weight matter?

I just did a club champion fitting.  I ended up with Srixon Zx5 irons with nippon modus tour extra stiff shafts, and for the driver Callaway Epic Max 9" with the LA golf trono 75 wood X-stiff flex.  For all of the clubs they quoted around 4k.  I did some research and Discount Dans told me they could get me the same clubs for 2k.  The issue is Discount Dans said they cant get the swing weight to exactly what club champion had me at which was E0 for all clubs.  How much would it impact me if I cant get that club weight for all of the clubs to exactly E0?  Should I just go through club champion or are they overcharging me by 2k?

Club Champion is definitely on the higher end for prices. For 2k difference I think its a no brainer to add lead tape, hot melt, or whatever after that to hit that swing weight, it it really matters to you. Swing weight is easy to change for that much money.

You're the only one who can answer the question.  You can get the swing weight to whatever you want but will you be bothered by going the DD route?  Is 2k worth the piece of mind?

I've never gone through CC but have read plenty of stories on their process.  I think the upside to using CC is that they do offer free spec checks on all purchases and IIRC they perform the builds in house.  That being said, I have never seen the benefit in paying almost double for what you could get from almost any other retailer or most club fitters.  If I were you, I would order from Dan's and then take them to a club fitter to have them built to, or as close to the specs you want.  Swing weighting a set of clubs shouldn't be a $2k process.

I agree with zdtallan. Save the $2k and get them rebuilt locally. Takes me like 1.5 hours max to re-swingweight a set.

Sensitiveity to SW is just too subjective for anyone here to tell you how important it might be for you.

 

However, you should be able to answer the first part for yourself.  If they really fit you to E0, then you should already know how important it is.   During the fitting, how did your results with the club set to E0 compare to your results when it was set to D0 or D4 or any other value?

 

C.C. does have a rep for using heavy heads due to the fitting system they use to allow them to change shafts on the heads.   But there is a big difference between "I was fit to E0" and "I was fit using clubs that were at E0".   Did you really hit clubs that were lighter and choose the heavier swing weight based on the results?

 

But if it is important, there are plenty of ways to increase the head weight if you want to save money.

Did they start at standard D2ish and gradually adjust the swing weight heavier during your fitting or is the CC "standard" E0 because of the heavy universal adapters they use?

My friend recently ran into this issue with CC and the E0 Swing Weight build. When he got out onto the course with it, it never performed like it did in the fitting bay. I saw his spec sheet and questioned the E0 with a driver. The head weighed in pretty standard at 195 grams, which means it wasn't hot melted to get to that weight. He was also using a standard grip. After calling CC to figure out if it was measured before it went out the door, they confirmed the club is E0 and they use tungsten powder in the tip of the shaft to get there. I'm not sure how many grams they put in to get to E0 from the standard, but after consulting with some other builders, he found out that the tungsten is likely impacting what he was seeing on the course. CC's default response was "you were fitted at E0 and that is what we built," offering to drill out the tungsten, if he shipped the shaft back. 

 

After his experience, I'd save $2k and get the clubs built elsewhere. Also, if you're spending that much, it might be worth getting a second fitting with standard components.

E0... that just can't be right. Are you 6'11" or do you bench 500 Lbs? There is something wrong with that suggestion.

Golf works....they have like a $50 swing weight scale..u can get that, ferrules, epoxy, tip weights, and grips (if needed, could ask DD if the OEM will allow grips to just be placed in box and not installed). All of this might run u $100-200 max to pull the heads off and swing weight them urself.

Take a look at the DIY Driver tune up post. It should give you some better information about fitting for a particular swingweight - it is all about consistency of on-center strike. In order to get to that optimum set up, you/your fitter would need to be able to vary the head weight for a given shaft (length, weight, flex etc.). When the most consistent good results are obtained, then the length, total weight and swingweight are measured.

E0 is insane. There's no way that's going to perform 'on the course' over 18 holes. Sounds like you got a 'monitor fitting'.

It may have something to do with the adapter used in the fittings. The build sheet had my irons at D5 and they were delivered at D2. Something I learned at CC, they do not simply order your clubs from the OEM and turnaround, breakdown and rebuild them to your fitted specs.  CC uses parts/inventory from their warehouse; for example, none of my Ping irons have the same serial numbers, something that would not happen buying directly from Ping.  :  - /

the high swing weight is because of the universal adapters they use.    They have no choice but to fit people into a very heavy swing weight.    in my opinion, its a complete rip off.
