Got my swing analyzed, wow.

So I finally met with an instructor and had my swing looked at. I haven't had some look at my swing since college (1988) but I only started getting serious last summer. It was really cool to see video of my swing and see it on trackman.

There are a few issues, the main being my swinging my driver like an iron, oops. So I have lots to work on and I might actually take a few lessons if I'm still having issues.

My irons looked good and I am aware of most my issues, but we changed my setup, so I will work on that now, too.

My swing path is also an issue. More with my driver than anything, but longer irons for sure. He did say my attack angle was spot on with my irons and also the most consistent part of my swing. 🤣

I learned a lot today. It makes me want to buy a trackman and build a setup in my garage, damn.

I'm not quite at that point yet. I would need to get rid of a lot of crap in the garage, first. But seeing the strike point and path were huge. My M3 face marks up pretty easy, so I have a pretty good idea. But to be able to see the swing path with the flight path was eye opening.

Yeah, that too. But a minor setup change helped a lot. Just the few small changes I could tell helped.

It's been fun getting my iron in order on my own, but I understand what I am doing I had the wrong approach with my driver. But I get it now and know what I need to work on.

Every time I mess with my driver, my irons go to sh*t, so there is that. I am just wanting to make a playable drive and I'll be happy. If some day I can tweak it, sure. But as long as I can stay in play off the tee, my irons will get me on the green.

How long is your driver?  I prefer 44" with mine.  It makes hitting the sweet spot much easier.  The sonofabitch might not go in the right direction all the time, but it usually comes of the sweet spot.  LOL.

I was feeling great last week so I propped the ole iPhone up and a took a quick video...now I’m in the process of rebuilding, even though I was playing great.  It looked so bad.  Worse than I’ve ever seen it.

It’s just what happens man. Sporadic play and practice allow different tendencies and habits to creep in.

For that matter, frequent practice and play allow that too if you’re not constantly monitoring.

I took an inch off it and got it to where I am hitting it much more centered. My issue is I'm hitting down on it like an iron, not up on it like I should. Also coming over the top causing the face open at impact.

I wasn't aware I wasn't rotating my hips and was standing up in my backswing.. So we changed my setup to be slightly more upright to begin with, then rotating my hips.

If I can correct my swing path, I think I'll be ok. Lots of work to do now, though. 🤣

Not a pro - but based on some conversations with my pro - I'm not convinced that's really not that bad of a thing.   Plus I have definitely seen a lot of people get worse results after trying to hit up.   There are good ways to hit up and bad ways.  Unfortunately the bad ways are the more intuitive ones so it cab be harder to do it "right" than most people think.

Based on what he told me is the driver is a different swing. I am playing it like I play my irons and my hands are ahead of the club head.

He took Rory Mcilroy's swing, made him lefty, then showed me where his head and hands are at impact vs mine (behind the ball vs over it). His shaft is near vertical for a positive attack angle where I am holding my standard -4.2 attack angle.

Plus I am still coming over the top. Open face, much spin = slice city. Changed my setup slightly, changed my takeaway, and in a few swings saw a HUGE improvement.

I just have to keep my driver swing separate from my irons swing. If I can manage to improve BOTH, it could get scary.

meh asking for separate swings is trouble. the swing naturally changes as the clubs get longer and ball position moves forward. It's hard enough to do one swing consistently.

Yes they're literally different swings because of the different geometry involved but I don't think you want to be thinking about different things to do them, it just happens as a result.

My issue is I was actually adjusting my body to the forward ball position, that how I end up down on it even though it's forward in my stance. I need to keep my swing shallow and focus on my release.

I only hit a few balls after he gave me a few things to try. It was a free session they offer and propose a plan. I will likely take a couple driver lessons from him, but he even said my irons looked pretty good after I changed my setup.

That's my goal for now as well.  Ball position up a little and a small change to secondary tilt at address - then make the same swing.  I have enough trouble with one swing, adding a second would kill me.

Oh man, I know that feeling too well! While back, a simple $50 check-up lesson tuned into a couple G investment on a skytrak, net, mat, etc.

I almost did the same thing.  Luckily I started with the net and quickly found out that my garage ceiling isn't tall enough before I bought any electronics.
