Is LPGA World No.1 Jin Young Ko casting from the top?

I realize she's probably doing most things right, and I also know about the no turn cast drill by Monte. But.. looking at her transition it seems like she's throwing a little bit of the lag angle away. Is that not the definition of a cast? It's pretty obvious on all swings but especially so at 1.20.

 

I suspect you are going to say that yes she starts ulnar deviating, but then her turns is fast enough to not let the club outrun her arms.

 

Also, the move at 1.43 is pretty cool..  I can't even begin to describe it or even imagine how to do it. 🙂

I wouldn't say "casting", but she does have less lag and forward shaft lean at impact than some. I see this as kind of the Justin Thomas approach in that a lot of the speed and power is coming from the lower body which means keeping the hands from getting stuck behind is important. LPGA players tend to be a little more neutral in terms of AoA than their PGA counterparts, and releasing the club and their angles is more conducive to that.

She's straightening her right elbow a little sooner, which is a great move, especially for either players with quick lower bodies, or people who need to add more speed. Also, the wrist release at the bottom is pretty common and adds a lot of speed. If you listen to the sound of her irons, she is getting loads of compression without dragging down the dynamic loft.
