YMMV: UPS is cheaper than USPS when printing label through PayPal

Anyone else notice this? I've made it a habit of checking both for quotes when I print a label within PayPal. My last 5 golf related shipments have all been sent through UPS because it's been cheaper (sometimes just a few cents). For instance, just shipped a 3W shaft and USPS was $10.44 and UPS was $10.12. I had made it a habit of using UPS anyways when USPS was struggling mightily and even though they seem to be doing a little better lately, I still trust UPS to get the package there on time more than I do USPS.

Edit: I guess I should preface this by saying that I'm located in the middle of the country so I'm not sure if that makes it better for me or not. Oh..and it doesn't cost extra for me to ship EAST of the Mississippi 🙂

I wish you didn’t need to create a personal account to use UPS.  I had an issue a few years ago where someone used my personal account number by mistake and UPS sent me a bill for around 200 bucks.  It took forever to dispute the charges.

You don't. You go into PayPal and find the transaction and click Print Shipping Label and there is a drop down to change from USPS to UPS.

And UPS gets the packages where they are supposed to go.  The last two packages I shipped USPS.  One took 8 weeks to go 145 miles.  the other is going on 4 weeks and still is not there.  my customer has already been refunded.  Retired after 31 years as a letter carrier and will NEVER ship USPS again.

Lately I have been getting a ton of Billing adjustments from UPS.  They are really dishonest ones.....I get the usual the weight was wrong but the ones that piss me off are they tried to charge me for a corrugated cardboard box and insisted that I did not have one.....another time it was because it was a difficult address that needed special handling or the mysterious 48X4X4 box that are to 50" X 6" X 6" and cost more than double.  They make sure that the billing adjustments land on Saturday so their offices are closed.  USPS is really inept but UPS is fraudulent .....im hoping Fedex is better because thats who I am left with

Wow, I've never had that happen. I typically drop off at a UPS Store and get a receipt when I drop it off.

I don't have a great deal of confidence in any of the shippers anymore truthfully. My local UPS guy is great but after that it's a crap shoot. USPS shipping has been horrible time wise lately and we all know the horror stories. The only advantage USPS offers is that they will pick up your package at no additional charge. If you are fairly far away from a place you can ship from that can make a difference I suppose.

Yes you do have to create an account.  The first time you use UPS through PayPal they make you put in all your personal info and assign you an account number.  You may not be seeing this is you signed up previously.

Ok, I don't remember doing that but it's been a while so that's definitely a possibility.

USPS tried that sh1t with me due to package size.  Funny thing is the package size I entered was the same size they claimed it to be, her it was a balloon rate??  I pointed it out to Paypal and wore them out until they relented and gave me a credit.  Package dimensions sometimes can be one price on Paypal software and another via USPS.  Also I don't know if anyway to enter triangular box dimensions on Paypal site which makes a difference on the dimensions and can lead to package being under balloon rate.  44x7 (21 around) triangular vs 41x7x7 square box.  Above is just an example. USPS software allows for the entry of triangular dim.  Maybe I'm missing something on PP.
