Takomo 201 Irons

Has anyone on here purchased, received, and tested these irons?

I’ve seen the YT videos and read the reviews from the winners on here, so I’m pretty much sold on these. As of now, I’ve got a customized set sitting in the cart on their site, but just want to hear from a few more voices before pulling the trigger.

Doesn't look like they are backordered.

The design looks incredibly similar to the original New Level 902, which has been discontinued and replaced. Elite irons with best in class feel and performance. I would buy these if I were in the market.

So far they have been saying end of November. I misunderstood that when they said "lefties are now available" they meant "to order" not sitting on a shelf waiting to ship.

I'm literally in no hurry for them so it's not an issue. But we will see if I have them before Christmas or not.

My thoughts exactly, I wonder if its the same manufacturing outfit doing the forging.

I just received my order of 201 (heads only). Also was given a tri-fold Takomo branded towel. I placed this order last week and it was shipped from Taiwan I was expecting it tomorrow based on tracking and fedex dropped it off this morning.  They were double wrapped in bubble wrap and have no dings or dents. I’m very anxious to see what I can do with these irons!

That’s good to hear! Curious how long custom builds are taking some folks. An extra $200 for shafts/grips/install just can’t be beat.

I was also thinking the same. The finish, especially on the faces, is very similar between the Takomo and New Level irons. One of the first things that I said to my friend when I got my set to test was that they remind me of New Level's finish. Wouldn't be surprised if they were from the same forger.

Agreed, but i didn’t want to wait and I have pulls taking up space. I noticed some rust and roughness in the hosel, and a just a little play when a semi prepped shaft was inserted. We’ll see when I drop them off at my club builder later today.

Curious if the hosel bores are .355 or .370?

Pretty much all DTC's are .370. Haywood posted a nice explanation as to why and it's shaft choice availability.

I went to the Takomo site and they had 2 201 sets in stock . Thought about it and the KBS Taper lite was the shaft I was fitted in at Miles of Golf back when the 545s were new. Out of the 50+ sets I have owned those were probably in top five at least. Checked back on site and 1 was left in the Taper Lite regular so I jumped on them. They remind me looks wise of the 545s so bingo. Anyway keeping the G410 with Steelfiber being I was simply looking for an inexpensive second set to keep at home. Hopefully the 201s make the first team and have the whole winter to hit them on range.

the irons look great, the graphite shaft offerings not so good. $150 extra for Fujikura atmos shafts, seems a bit steep and an extra 4-5 weeks delivery 😞

Yes that seems so. I have had MMT 80 stiff soft stepped once in 0211 pxg bought summer of 2020 and as mentioned Steelfiber i95 in my g410’s. When I got those Pxgs MMTs just came out or at least I never saw any on any forums. Fortunately they worked out. Their stable as are SF. That all said the Kbs Taper tip lite was one of the reasons I decided to grab that last set of 201s yesterday. For myself I thought they played well in my 545s and back then they had just come out. I see why the lites are at the high end price wise for steel. I have come to like certain graphite however even at my advanced age I miss the weight of steel to help my swing stay in general vicinity of a proper plane.

They asked me what shaft I was using when I ordered my heads because they are trying to find the best options to offer. The fact you can get heads only is a huge bonus to me because I have the shafts I want.

Ordered heads only this past Friday and throwing a set of AMT white in the black finish in them that I have in a set I don't really play anymore. Been playing the Cobra Forged TEC black for the last season so I'm curious to see how they compare as from the specs, lofts, etc they seem to be a similar setup.

Those look really good. I told them if I liked the 101's and they do those in a lefty, I'd bite.

Hit mine yesterday,4,5,7,9 irons. Hit some with my G410 first then Takomo 201 club for club. First few barely got off ground,LOL. I slowed my swing down and started hitting where I'm suppose to. You know when you miss meaning obviously they don't offer G410 forgiveness nor was that expected. Most noticeable aside from great looks and nice feel was the well hit balls seem to go straighter than well hit balls with G410 if that makes sense. One other aside was there were absolutely no ball marks nor mat marks on the soles or faces. That bodes well.

This, a well hit ball “seems” to go straighter.  I experienced that too, but what I think it is, is that well struck balls give proper feedback, rather than muted feedback from tech heavy clubs.

I'm hoping my 101's will be here soon. I will check out the wedges to see if they did lefties.

Takomo just dropped wedges today!  Anyone else buying a Gap/approach wedge?

Actually thoughts about dropping the g or a wedge in next set before I knew about the 201s. Seems I had begun favoring my PW and simply moving hand position. Since either the 101 or201s right now are sold only 4 thru PW I need to make room for the 4 assuming it stays.

I’m thinking of doing that now, since after the cost of shipping and  re-shafting the wedge would put the total cost over or close to $200USD.  And I’m doing long division on which loft to land on.

Got my heads in last week (about 7 days total from purchase to at my door) and picked them up Wednesday from my local golf shop. Hit them this morning and they are SOFT. Threw in a set of AMT White S300 (black finish) I had in another set I'm not playing anymore. Just came from playing Cobra Forged TEC Black and these are surprisingly longer even though the lofts are about a degree weaker. I was hitting my 7 iron on well struck shots in the 190 range on the simulator. Same simulator had my 6 iron going roughly that same distance 3 weeks ago. So far I'm impressed and looking forward to getting them on the course.

As mentioned I have only hit the 4,5,7,9  201 irons on range once (75 ball bucket)so far thus need a another session coming from G410s with SF to fully  acquaint myself being different style sticks. Aside from actual course experience . Yes I saw good distance after a few swings. Better trajectory for sure. My comment here is that these seem to be basically forged from a one piece  block of metal relying on design and not the "bells & whistles" of multiple materials ie. tungsten, foam, injections found in many of the expensive established offerings. Not knocking those being God knows I bought far more than my share. Just saying.
