Kelly Chinn 2021 was #1 for a while as a kid from Northern VA.

And Nick Dunlap was top 2 and he is from Alabama. Alabama had two top 10 boys all of last year in Nick Dunlap and Gordan Sargent. Fact is though, overall as a whole, Cali Texas and Florida will always have the best overall just due to a numerical advantage.

I agree with that.  Just sheer numbers.

What is interesting is to look at the states who either punch above their weight or do not land where they should based on their populations. Some of the southern states punch above their weight and are higher than their population rank while some northern states are not. I'm sure this is primarily due to climate and the ability for southern kids to be on the course year around.

First Notah Regional played this past weekend.  Saturday temps in the 40's and warmed up to 50's with 15 mph winds and gusts much more.  14-18 was a pretty crappy field.  3 really good players in it and the rest were rather lackluster.   First day gets a CCA of 3.  Previous weekend FJT at LPGA with close to the same temperatures with worse wind and a MUCH better field gets a CCA of 1.

JGS and Max need to be more transparent about what is going on.  At this point, I and many others, think the CCA is a complete joke.  JGS is losing a lot of credibility.  Time for a new ranking system to compete against the JGS.

No, my kid was in neither field.

Golfweek rankings seem like a good idea to me.   It’s just W-L so you don’t even consider the score and weather conditions.

I agree.

I believe they take into account average score as well?  Could be wrong.  Ranking kids solely on scoring differential without any regards to the actual score doesn't seem right.

JGS is a system that is set up for players/parents to game the system whereas GolfWeek is not.  You almost have to game the system.  JGS ranked events constitutes picking events based on the course, set up of tour, course ratings, and field.

It’s pretty good.  It doesn’t use scores at all.  It does use how much you beat someone.  So if you have a 70 and and another has a 75 then it calculates the difference between those but doesn’t care what the score is.  It could be a 90 and a 95.  Same thing.

I think they have no clue what they are doing and they keep tweaking things and make it even worse.  The CCA is a joke and it helps certain players and hurts others. Also some regions get a big boost while other do not.

It's really bad when you can see players who lose week in and week out but outrank players who regularly beat those players and it been going on for almost a year. When that happens there really is no credibility in their rankings.

Just ranking on diff is a stupid way to do things. All one has to do is a see a 2028 girl  below 1000 total ranking and only playing 5000 yards to know something is wrong.

Golfweek is actually pretty good it does seem to make some sense. The problem is they don't rank enough tournaments.

I believe the last time I looked at it they ranked based on the diff score but it's also based on other factors like W-L and a few other things.

A junior Ranking should probably be similar to WAGR where your tournaments are converted to a point system.  No reason to treat a USGA event the same as local 2 day pga junior event. There not even close to being the same level.

A huge issue with JGS is 1 bad tournament will count against you for a whole year.  I've seen some kids have a bad tournament and they dropped 200 or 300 places and most likely will not recover for a whole year. That isn't right playing tournaments should help you not hurt you.

Agree on the USGA event vs a regional PGA tour event!   Not even comparable!

It's funny reading all of these posts regarding JGS (I knew it as NJGS back in the day). Back when I was going through the recruiting phase (mid 2000s) all anyone cared about was the Golfweek rankings. NJGS wasn't even really on the radar.

The Golfweek rankings were what college coaches looked at, and it was what the equipment companies would use when "sponsoring" players (pre-NIL). I remember that because I was ranked pretty highly I used to have a Titleist rep who would send me balls, gloves, shoes, etc. for free, but that didn't start until I got to a certain ranking.

I will never understand JGS rankings.  Was looking at rankings of kids in our state for my son's grad year and there's a kid ranked really high with only 6 tournaments, no wins and only two rounds under par that is ranked higher than a kid with 21 events, two wins and eight rounds under par.  IMO the player with 21 events is playing in better fields as well.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

JGS rankings are honestly becoming a joke within the Junior Golf Community.

Rankings have absolutely nothing to do with wins.  It is so minor that a win really doesn't matter at all.

The one and only thing that matter is Yardage which coincides with course rating.  The only other thing that matters is the quality of field to boost the CCA when the player doesn't play well.

If talking about BW, those two scores under par aren't even his best scores on JGS.  Yeah, they are under par, but the 74-74 at the Junior Amateur were better for his ranking.

The only value JGS has anymore is that is a repository for where most juniors played.  Beyond that it become pretty useless.

You know something is wrong with a ranking if you beat certain kids all year but they still outrank your kid and other who beat them. The only reason it happens is they play 4 or 5 tournaments and it results in a low diff score then kids who play a full schedule.

Don't get me off on the CCA rating.  Since girls have smaller fields you see really weird things with it too.

I learned a few tours play on crappy courses and say if it rains they do things like make it a free drop out of bunkers.

from a rankings standpoint this great everyone gets lows  scores.   Even if it gets adjusted getting free drops on sands bunkers  makes a course a lot easier.

This why diff score being the only matters is so wrong and making JGS ranking useless.
