SIM2 Driver Back Weight

Jeffyr11

Recommended Posts

I purchased a couple weights for the back for my SIM2 driver.  I have a t20 screwdriver but wondering if it should "click" to lock in like shafts or not.

Can anyone confirm, I want to make sure it does not come loose while playing.

Thanks in advance!

The clicking comes from the wrench that comes with your driver. It is a mini torque wrench.

I don't know if there is a specific torque spec for the backweights on the Sim/Sim2, but I mess with these all the time. The first time you remove the stock one, it will offer some resistance since it is held in with locktite. Just remove the bolt slow and steady. I install mine with plumbers/PTFE tape, since I dont use locktite because I swap them a lot LOL.

You probably dont "need" to use locktite, or tape, but keep in mind that the area where it bolts in is aluminum, so you could strip the threads pretty easily from overtightening, and then you have a project on your hands.

Just snug it up when installing -  a few ugga duggas

Definitely don't overtighten the screw, or you'll be taking the head to a machine shop to have a Helicoil thread repair insert installed. I would go ahead and use the proper lock tite once you find the correct weight. Use the BLUE lock tite. Just a small drop is enough. Never use the red, as it requires a significant amount of heat to break loose.

That advice would apply to any sliding weight for all OEMs. Especially if the weight is from China since the quality of the metal is not that great compared to the OEM weights. I went through this saga with the OG Epic driver sliding weight, too many stripped screws/weights to show for it. Ugh.

Now I just use any blue lock tight and hand tighten just enough.

The backweights in general are pretty soundly designed. The "wings" of the weight should help it from vibrating free, but like others said if you want to be certain then blue Loctite is the way to go.

Or you can hotmelt through the port and take advantage of the extra sticky adhesive residue on the threads!

Screws should be installed at their specified torque for the diameter / thread of the screw. The back weight screw is the same as the hosel screw diameter, and can safely be assembled with the same torque.

The "click" from the tool is acknowledgement that you have tightened it to the specified torque. You should never have an issue using the provided tool and clicking it for any screw on the head.

Hi there bringing up and old thread. But can anyone confirm that the back weight for SIM2 and SIM2 Max are the same size. I know on SIM they were different sizes and wouldn't fit from one another.

The back weights on the SIM2 and SIM2 Max are the same size. The weight on the SIM2 Max D is different.

This is the universal unit measurement of screw tightening, can confirm.

The winged design of these weights secures them a little better against vibrations.
