Byron Morgan Putter Prices

There are a few putters that I routinely shop for and Byron Morgan's are one of them. I have noticed that you do not see nearly as many for sale since his passing at that the prices of them are at least double what they used to be. Do you think these will be big collector pieces one day?

Supply and demand. The supply is gone, the demand is hot now. You still see some for reasonable prices but too many guys asking like 1k. Just have to ignore those until they drop their price.

I love mine and personally would like to buy one or two more. But yes they are harder to find. I don’t see them decreasing in value.

I personally wouldn’t let my DH89 for less than a grand with the LAGP shaft.  I’ll never sell it but like mentioned … supply is gone and demand is way up.

There have been the same overpriced Byron's on the bay since his death, no one is buying them and they just sit there.  One guy wants $4000 for a Bombora, I paid $650 for mine.  A person can ask what he wants but in the end it won't sell if overpriced.  I do think a person can get maybe 20% more than he paid but not double or triple.

In a few years time, and obviously longer out, they will increase further still. Especially the ones in great condition. Don’t get me wrong, there will still be deals to be had, but with no new product entering the market, the small inventory of sellers will drive prices up.

One could argue this is their peak. Imo many of the people who appreciate Byron either have one or will never have one at these prices.  I love Byron's work, but I just don't think they should be priced this high.  In 5 years, will people even want a Byron? I don't know.   Even at Byron's peak it could easily be argued they were too expensive. I guess it is all preference. 

 

There are so many new companies making amazing putter for under $1000. I would rather have my own custom than a byron at $1000. Maybe that's just me.

If you're talking about the one on the bay, I sold that one to him. Best of luck but I don't think he gets anywhere near that. It also has a finish blemish on the toe that he doesn't mention or show in a picture.

 

But to the original topic, I still have a couple of Byrons including new Epic Day rincon neck with site dot and oil can finish. I was hesitant to game it before and refuse to now because of what the value may be. Silly for a putter but who knows.

Appreciate that sale Kaptain! 

As I mentioned in the post I didn’t actually want to sell it, mostly gauging interest. I had a much lower offer price than 4K.

I didn’t mention the “blemish” as I haven’t even noticed it once since buying it; it was in the pictures however. Valid point though, post removed. Should also clarify it’s not a Bombora per Steve, (though to me it looks like one), it’s a true handmade by Byron. 
 

I’m gaming my DH89 GSS, and winning tournaments with long putts! Yeah, a week later still gloating about this putt haha!

Can't get salty at someone for buying and selling things. You agreed on a price.  If its a friend...or you lied about your intentions, I get it. 

 

Either thay being said...hard to sell a putter for $700 then see it up for 4k shortly after. 

 

Regardless most of the Byron's on the bay are just sitting there.

If that was directed at me I'm not salty at all. I truly wish @RobPesce34the best of luck on a potential sale. I made a nice profit on it after buying it in a bundle with a couple handmade Lajosis (that I've kept) from an estate. I see no reason why he shouldn't try to make a profit himself. My comment was about the likelihood of a sale at the high list price.

My pleasure! Truly no ill-will. I needed to pare down my putter collection and my loss is your gain.

 

Btw, I spoke to Byron about the putter after I bought it. He remembered who he made it for many years earlier. The guy was a fan of really early Scottys and wanted something similar.
