Persimmon Wood Collections - How do you display yours?

Recommended Posts

There are some terrific collections that members here have.  I have worked on my collection for more than a decade (more like 20-25 years) to collect what I have today.  I have had many more woods and have moved many sets and individual woods as they didn't fit what I ultimately wanted.  While my collection is close to being completed I am still on the look out for a handful of models.  The following are the last picture of my collection (as posted here before) when I was living in northern Colorado.  I am also attaching my collection in it's current state now that I reside in northeast Florida.  The tall box, just behind the dresser, was taken at the storage unit it was stored in (yes, climate controlled storage unit).  All our possessions in that storage unit are now in the house we just closed on.  The PowerBilt bag is in the area of our house that will be my home office.

Congrats on the house did you end up down sizing before the move? I remember you stating you were planning on thinning out the collection before the move.

looking forward to seeing them on display in their new home.

Do you worry about yellowing due to sun exposure being next to the window?

I'm currently in the process of building a rack to display my clubs in the newly refinished basement next to my desk, Will upload when completed.

The wood sets and iron sets that I think I most want to play "next" are lined up against a wall in the spare downstairs  "ready" room.  The sets "waiting in the wings" are lined up against a wall in an upstairs spare room.  The sets I won't play "this year" (whatever year this is) are in boxes stacked up in the same upstairs spare room.

I hit everything I own, sooner or later.  I've found that I shouldn't decide what to play on any given day until 5 minutes before I leave the house for the course.

I'd have the same problem of what set to game if I had them all in a semi-trailer and drove the tractor trailer to the course; I'd end up rummaging around in the trailer to pick a set and miss my tee time.  Worse yet, if they were in the trailer I wouldn't get to eyeball these great clubs when I was in the house and agonize over which set I'm going to hit next.

Love your woods collection, BTW; it's got me beat :coolpics: .

Those racks are nice, but where do the rest of the irons go?

I just cleaned up my iron rack and organized them chronologically, starting with '56 Staffs in the upper left and down to '91 Staffs in the almost lower left, with two sets of Hogans taking the last two stalls. The hanging rack has wedges and extra Staff sets on the left and loose staff irons on the right.

This is incredible.  If winter wasn't so harsh here in Chicago my garage would look the same.

Mine's in a bit of transition at the moment, I recently negotiated the box room for my golf room and have temporarily dumped a few bags in there, the rest are in the garage.

The racking in the cupboard was something I did a few years back.

I'm more of an iron collector at the moment.  But I had to build this rascal last year to keep things a bit organized.  Of course, these are only the ones that made the cut and got to come inside in my office.

I finished the rack in my basement. This is less display and more storage. About 90% of these need to be refinished. In that pile is every club I ever dreamed about finding when I was a kid, including M43s, 693s, M75s, M85s, Mac Hogans, Hogan Hogans, and an LFF. Time to get to the bench.

i see you have quite a few clubs in your garage and basement, i have mine in my basement which is not finished but has a vapor barrier in the form of vinyl wall panels. I was wandering if you had any thoughts about what the ideal humidity would be for long term health of the persimmons.

I live in Colorado and we have very low humidity, even in August, so it isn't an issue here. A few summers ago I bought 50 clubs from an auction in Pennsylvania, most of which were unhit, and many of them were noticeably swollen with moisture. 6 months in the Colorado air and all of the swollen woods had shrunk back to the original size.

So it is a real concern, depending on where you live. Out here, it isn't a big deal at all, but back East where I came from, I would not have put the clubs in the basement without some humidity control. If you store them inside the basement, I'd run a dehumidifier in the summer.

You could also make sure they are all sealed, which is practical if you have few clubs, but not practical for me. I have way too many projects to get to them anything soon. I'm just lucky its dry out here.

i have a dehumidifier but its a system the basement quys put in and it doesn't have a read out of the actual humidity. just trying to get an idea of what people here are shooting for.

In Chicago it can get pretty humid.  I worry also about shaft rust long term in the garage.

Problem is I only have so much indoor space.

Someone in the UK has just listed "the largest private collection of classic MacGregor persimmon woods (1950-1970) in the world!" Bold claim!

Total of 1150 clubs comprising 100 restored and 1050 "as they came of the course"

If the pictures are of the best of them then the quality of restoration is not high.

I hope we can all remain friends here as I am sure bidding will be intense amongst us as we seek to own this ultimate collection! Bidding starts at £150,000 ($180,000)!

I am watching your opening moves with interest!

Ps. Apologies as IT illiteracy prevents me from posting the link but I am sure you will find the listing on Ebay.

I think that might've been put up for sale a few times over the last year or so, not sure if it's been by the same seller.

Zero feedback as a seller. 😵

Can’t wait to check it out later. Imagine the shipping cost. Gotta be at least 1100 lbs. What if you were the seller then having to box up “the world’s largest persimmon collection. Yikes!

Ouch!

I hate even having to box up 9 irons to send.

Maybe that explains the ridiculously inflated price? Packaging fees.

Great collection (and nice rack...).

That's an impressive collection of Kool Kats, including what looks to be a set of three. Do you have them in every colour? I can see red, yellow, brown, and black. Was there a green one, or am I imagining things?

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
