This shallowing drill is pretty neat

What do you all think? I love following this crew, most of their students swings are pretty insane.

I like it. Been doing the imaginary turn the door knob drill with the right hand for months. But to actually turn a wheel, makes perfect since.

Are those moves necessary to hit the ball well?

Well of course not but do most really good players have some aspect of this move? Probably but idk for certain. That's a question for folks a lot smart than I.

The reason I like it is because most shallowing drills don't incorporate a good steepening/countering move. This one you're not only shallowing but also rotating, a lot. That's always been my struggle with this move, I can get into a gnarly impact position but I can't operate at a high level day in and day out like I can with my more "traditional swing".

The two best players that ever lived wanted to avoid it to be honest. Nick Price had a shallowing move but his hips were square at impact. Different ways to get it done. Are the guys at Elite golf schools Gankas disciples?

I'm not sure what you want out of this. I am simply sharing something on a golf forum about....golf and the swing. I don't think there is a single person on this forum who would disagree that there are different ways to get it done. Quit derailing the thread. If you don't like it who cares.

Last thing I'll say on this because I've already wasted a couple mins of my life replying back is I welcome anyone to state the advantages/disadvantages they see. Not just posting condescending replies because they hate the shallowing "disciples".

Who pissed in your corn flakes today? I'm just curious if this works for people.

That’s a question for elite golf schools. Someone in another thread mentioned their instructor recommended it so I’d assume it does work. FWIW I think the shallowing fad is a bit overblown but I do think it’s a difficult move for most and this drill is new and I found it interesting and different from most I’ve seen which is why I shared.

I’m still not sure what your point has been in this thread, not saying that snarky I really just don’t know. If it’s that some folks would be better off avoiding this based on your comments about 2 of the best golfers wanting to avoid this move I’d totally agree. In fact, I’m working on the exact opposite thing now myself as I’ve always had a tendency to get too shallow and dumped under.

For beginners or even advanced players this would be very confusing how they turn their arms with the devices they use. The concept is good because it promotes the body to stay under the "pane of glass" but just a little confusing on how the drill works with the arms.

Left arm over right arm under or point them to the Malaska steering wheel video and tell them to do the opposite of what he is showing. Right turn Clyde or left turn Clyde the choice is yours

Simples:-)

Love this move. Been working on the Kawamura swing for a while now, similar concept. Turn the steering wheel to the left going back, and right coming down. High left arm through impact, right shoulder down to the ball, turn turn turn. Otherwise free-wheeling and swinging hard.

Shot a stress-free even-par 72 this morning with that as my only swing thought. Hit 12 fairways and 14 greens. Average putting (33). Eagled our short par 5 with a 185 yd 5-iron to 15 ft. A stupid 3-putt from 20 ft and a crappy chip kept me from a PB. Best ball-striking of my life at age 56. Feel like I finally understand the golf swing.

It may be “neat”, but is it effective?

For someone like me who tends to get steep in transition, it certainly can be. I’ve had more success shallowing with it than with anything else I’ve tried.

A side benefit, for me at least, is more speed with less perceived effort.

It’ll work until you start overdoing it and then dump it underplane hitting blocks and hooks. Then you’ll discover Malaska and start turning the “wheel” the opposite direction to correct that and so the cycle goes on.

Hahaha I’ve definitely been down that road more than once.

This is the left arm up baseball move!!!  I tend to get stuck and can't continue rotation.  From the looks of this there is a DEFINETE move to the lead side.  Perhaps that is the key to this.  I was a baseball player but end up way to stuck and dumped under.  Could it be I am not moving to the lead side enough?  I have studied their move via the Instagram account.  I just noticed the significant move to the lead side today.

Can anyone using this method confirm???

More turn, less right tilt. Exit stage left.

Way to complicated for me.     To me,  folks  tend to do too much with the arms on both the backswing and transition.
