Kirkland Irons (*** MERGED ***)

One more piece of evidence that SMT579 is in fact the Justin irons, and that is the specs below are 100% identical. The Kirlands certainly LOOK identical as well, but the specs are just slightly different (especially the offset). But it's clear that they had their own molds made with their engraved logos & words, and also used a .355 hosel instead of .370. So while I still feel it's the exact same model & design, they have definitely been tweaked slightly.

This makes the most sense honestly.

more evidence of the tweak is the location of the screw on the Justin vs kirklands.

Why I'm a little disappointed is I was hoping for a graphite shaft option.  I've been waiting for them to come out.  I game the TM Sim2 Max irons with the KBS Tour 85 S flex shafts.  I've hit some PD irons (TE, Callaway, etc) with a 70 gram R flex graphite and REALLY like how that feels.  I was considering getting the PXG 0211 with the MMT R flex.  I'm 57 and my 7i SS ranges 78-81 with the 70 gram graphite shaft.  I'm bordering R flex and hit R flex better than the S flex.  I need to switch.  The 115 gram shaft may be a bit too heavy for me ATM.

"Tungsten weight used progressively throughout the set to dial in the center of gravity for optimal launch trajectory"

This is really interesting. Their website copy doesn't go into this detail and would lead someone to think that its a simple tungsten weight application across all clubs. Isn't this what TM touted as the biggest benefit of the most recent P790 release?

Chat GPT 4.0 results on SMT 579 Irons:

The SMT579 irons, known for their unique design and technology, have been discussed in various forums and reviews in terms of feel, distance, and accuracy. Here's a summary of what users and experts say about these aspects:

  1. Feel: The SMT579 irons are described as having a good feel, primarily due to their construction. The use of 455 Carpenter Steel for the ultra-thin face in the hollow body design is likely to contribute to a responsive feel upon impact. This construction is designed to provide a combination of solid contact and pleasant feedback, which is valued by many golfers.

  2. Distance: These irons are designed to maximize ball speed, which is crucial for achieving greater distance. The hollow body technology and the ultra-thin face construction are intended to flex more upon impact, thereby enhancing the distance the ball travels. This feature is particularly beneficial for golfers looking to improve their long game.

  3. Accuracy: The SMT579 irons are designed with features that aim to enhance accuracy. This includes aspects like the progressive offset technology and internal perimeter weighting. These design elements are meant to improve the moment of inertia (MOI) and help in maintaining accuracy, especially on off-center hits. The sole design is also crafted to improve turf interaction, which can contribute to more consistent and controlled shots.

While these aspects are highlighted in various sources, it's important to remember that the actual performance can vary based on individual skill levels and preferences. Golfers interested in the SMT579 irons should consider trying them out or seeking professional advice to ensure they meet their specific needs and playing style.

The SMT579 irons are designed with features that focus on forgiveness and distance consistency, two key factors that are particularly important for amateur and recreational golfers. Let's break down these aspects:

  1. Forgiveness:

    • Hollow Body Technology: The hollow body construction of the SMT579 irons plays a significant role in forgiveness. This design allows for more effective weight distribution around the perimeter of the club, which increases the Moment of Inertia (MOI). A higher MOI means that the club is more stable at impact, especially on off-center hits, leading to more forgiving shots.
    • Internal Perimeter Weighting: This feature helps improve accuracy and forgiveness. By having weight distributed around the edges of the iron head, the club can better resist twisting on off-center hits, which helps in maintaining direction and distance.
  2. Distance Consistency:

    • 455 Ultra-Thin Carpenter Steel Face: The ultra-thin face construction is intended to flex more upon impact, promoting increased ball speed. This can contribute to greater and more consistent distances, as the face design helps to maximize energy transfer to the ball.
    • Low Center of Gravity: The SMT579 irons have a low center of gravity, which aids in launching the ball higher. A higher launch can translate into greater distance, as it allows the ball to travel further through the air.
    • Progressive Offset Technology: This design feature helps in creating workable shot shapes and contributes to distance consistency. It allows golfers to have better control over their shots, which is essential for maintaining consistent distances.

It's important to note that while these design features are intended to enhance forgiveness and distance consistency, the actual experience can vary for each golfer based on their skill level, swing characteristics, and personal preferences. Golfers interested in these irons should ideally test them out or consult with a golf professional to determine how well they align with their specific needs and playing style.

Costco golf buyers are going to be really upset spending $149.99 for the putter, $169.99 for the wedges and $499.99 for the irons separately when they come out with the Kirkland stand bag, including everything along the new driver for only $899.99

Wouldn’t that be the dream. It has to come with 2 dozen balls as well.

Typical GolfWRX. Judging a book by its cover.

So let me get this correct…you would rather me hit these even though I don’t care for what they look like behind the ball than just return them brand new?

They don’t have special costco exclusive unobtainium alloy or Costco AI engineering to eliminate hot flyers. I’m sure they will perform just fine but at a similar price point to my used zx7’s…I’ll stick with what I have.

You bought them just to see if they looked good at address?  You aren't going to try them out before returning?

This is my question as well. If you have the clubs in hand and you will not get any less money when you return them whether they are still new in box or used for an entire year, why not at least take them out on the range and see how they perform? I bet he could use them, and still sell them for the same amount as if they were new or possibly even more depending on how desperate some people are.

What if they are amazing clubs, but he doesn’t even know because he never bothered to actually swing them because he didn’t like the way they looked?
