Well, there is a little more that goes into an OEM-designed driver than just using an existing open-foundry model like Costco did. Most of the cost is in the R&D and marketing rather than actual production cost. It doesn't cost an OEM more than maybe $100-150 to actually make that $500-600 driver ($75-100 for the head, $10-$50 for a shaft, and $20 for stuff like grip, assembly, wrench, headcover & packaging). But they spend millions on research, development, testing, tweaking, marketing, etc before they even sell a single one. 

 

In this case, using an open-foundry design and a "made for" shaft we're probably looking at more like $70 for the head, $10 for the shaft, and $15 for the rest = $95 total cost. So selling it for $200 is still a pretty low mark-up, but all they have to do is pony up the cash for production and then throw it up on their website - done and done. Very little actual work involved to make or sell them.

It wouldn't surprise me the oems overplay their r&d expenditures vs their marketing costs.

If the bullxxxx equates to more $$ to them, then more power to them.

thats a pretty hefty markup considering their markup policy (rumored) of 15% iirc (maybe it was 10%?) on kirkland products.

It didn't even show up online on the Golf Clubs category page! Because I had even setup a web monitor to notify me of any new additions to that page.

I listened to it with AirPods in, pretty clear to me. But then again I always have a buzzing/ringing in my ears due to tinnitus so what do I know…

It's funny, I'm not in the market for new irons at all, no interest even, yet I've read through this entire thread, and have watched the video. I guess I just find these clubs very intriguing, and I'm not even a Costco member lol. My dad and best friend are though. 

 

I guess it's the cheapskate in me, seeing what's out there.
