Has anyone on here actually fixed a true cast?

What is your definition for not casting? You cite a lead forearm shaft angle of 135 at P5 in your own swing as an example of casting. The greatest players on the planet lose a good amount of that specific angle incrementally from the top of the backswing into P5 and then more into impact. Nobody gets a full set at the top and then maintains that into impact. You would miss the ball or blow out your back trying. So at that point it’s just a matter of degrees and the rate of it extending. It’s definitely possible to retain a bit more of that angle later into the swing if you really are losing too much. Also something that could be overdone. I

90 degrees or less.  Talking about a face on view just to be clear.  Lower than 90 and the angle depends on shallowing and camera angle and grip etc.  But it seems like 90 is the max any great player will be at.  If I could get to that I’d be ecstatic and move on

If you get a full set at the top to around 90 degrees and truly are getting to 135 degrees by P5 that would be pretty excessive. Are you sure you ever actually get to at least 90 to begin with?

yes I’m at 90 degrees on the way up. Don’t get much less than that though if at all.

 

Maybe it’s more like 125 degrees at P5

25 years or so started as a middle teenager.

 

Only got into playing golf swing about 2 years ago

Comeaux posted here a few times before he was run off which was unfortunate. I met him on Elkington's old site "Secret in the Dirt". He lives about an hour from me in Beaumont so I've gotten to watch him in person. He doesn't hit the golf ball he blisters the golf ball.

It's not always a swing issue. Setup problems can contribute.

Comeaux was a terrible caster, he had the worst cast to ever come out of East Texas. 

 

He fixed it by going narrow to wide instead of wide to wide.

I dont think at this point that it’s due to other swing faults (to be clear, I could be wrong of course, please don't let that comment derail the thread).  I don’t have a perfect swing otherwise but I see people with much worse swings that dont cast at all.  Even if they slide, EE etc.  And I even do it on 1/2 and 3/4 swings.  

 

Ive been to instructors you’ve heard of on here and gotten mostly the same generic answers.

 

Just curious to hear any success stories 

     Started golf a little late in life, in my twenties. Got serious in my thirties. I had all the same faults as you mentioned above, including the etc. for many years. I do not believe that I would ever would have improved without finding some sense of understanding the mechanics of a proper golf swing. That being said I believe my casting was the result of me turning my lead arm, hands back towards square without matching rotation going back in. In other words my hands were staying on the swing plane while my club face was casted outward. Once I realized that could start my turn and rotation early in my downswing and still keep my club face on plane I experimented with my timing till I found that for me if I start my downswing with my hands very briefly on my swing plane then starting my turn and rotation of my hands back to impact position that I found by far the most controlled swing I will ever have.

There is also a chance you are chasing ghosts if you are using 2D angles in the face on view to define a cast, when a truly detrimental cast is better viewed DTL.

I understand the idea that lag is a down the line pursuit and holding the angle is terrible. 
 

Is this is completely true then why does basically every elite player have near 90* heading into P6 from Face On?

 

If someone attacks from the inside and has lag from DTL but has lost it from face on there has to be something wrong. I almost feel like you have to have it from DTL AND FO.

 

OP- I am with you working on this problem. About your handicap and play solid golf usually. Can barely take divots and don’t get a ton of spin on irons because of it. Would love to fix it one day.
