Today the course reopened after being closed for three days for aerification. Twice a year I get a pair of slower weeks at work while the greens heal up. At this time of the season it is a welcomed break from the craziness.  🙂

Restaurant toilets are really, really dangerous. So many of my 1st dates have gone to use them and just vanished.

That was the neighbors kid's toy. I did not have kids. 

 

As you can see the homes are real close together in the desert unless you are spending a million +.  It maybe more than that now aye aen?  It takes some getting used to. 😃

 

 

 

Pretty but I would suffocate.

Progress. Some stuff glazed and almost ready for final coat of paint. 

More sashes ready for glass, 2 jambs left to paint, 4 sashes and 2 storms. 6 out of 16 left.  Going to be a hefty invoice for finish application. 

 

Yellow outside, black inside. Storm windows to match overhangs.

 I did do some short game work in my back yard DMM. That's why I made sure there was some natural grass. 

 

Thank you for the kind words. Though I've never had any children of my own I seemingly have a knack for making them laugh and have an enjoyable time when we are together.

Quick update from Ireland.  After 11+ hours of flying and 3+ on a bus, we made it to Mount Falcon Estate yesterday with all our luggage.  Off to Enniscrone!

Your yard looks great! I love the xeriscape look. I’ll probably do that to our backyard before next summer. We only have 2 areas where we have grass, both of which have bare sections because of shade from trees. DFW will look like Vegas before too much longer. We go from extreme heat/drought to single digit temps/ice storms. Most lawns can’t handle the wild swings.

... Not surprising since lawn grass isn't indigenous to the US. Some nobleman brought it over from consistently wet with lots of cloud cover GB. It is so engrained in our suburban culture it's hard to talk people out of having any. It's one thing in say the midwest/northeast where there is plenty of rain but quite another in the south and southwest. I will have my nursery guy/landscaper make recommendations for my yard that won't envolve grass or even worse, astroturf. I imagine it will stay mostly rock based but would love some native prairie grass areas. I am envisioning a shade tree and a lemon tree but after that I have no idea. Just some native plants/flowers. 

... On a slightly different note, my trip to Portland with lush green EVERYWHERE was a really nice change from the intense heat, rocks and desert in Az.

We haven't had much rain this summer. My yard is fried but one good rain and I'll be mowing again.

... About 10 years ago when we had that crazy drought, all our neighbors were watering their lawns to keep them green. Ours turned brown much to the dismay of our neighbors and came close to dying so we watered it twice with just enough water to keep them alive but they stayed brownish. Then of course a huge storm came through and 2 days of rain had our lawn just as green as everyone else.

Yea, when you have a drought you either have to water all the time or let it go until the rains come. Watering just isn't the same as a good rain.

The name "Evergreen State" is a bit over-rated.  In early July all the lawns in Bellingham turn brown.  Unless you want to go crazy watering them all the time, even though we're in a drought.

 

Like most I just let my lawn go dormant... a lot less mowing is required, if at all.  Then, in October and November, with the help of fresh rains, everything becomes green again.  I usually do my final mowing close to Thanksgiving.

Welp, someone needs to get back to the short game area STAT. 

 

Talk about a blown round. I was killing it off the tee (which has always been the best part of my game and the Ventus just makes it better), iron play was super solid (though need to check my alignment - great strikes but lines weren't always on. Don't think it's IN my setup but the line I'm setting up to) which is what I've really been working on this year, putting was borderline lights out. Speed and line were great all day, rolled in a few long ones, didn't miss anything inside of 5 feet ... but ...

 

My god, my short game - and all the work I put into it last year - is just GONE. Like, "Have you ever even played golf before?" gone. All the sh#t I worked so hard last year to get rid of came back with a vengeance. Skulls, chili dips, terrible distance control when I did actually make decent contact. 

 

This had potential to be a year low round. Unless I missed a green. 

 

If you need me tomorrow, I'll be at the chipping range ALL F'IN DAY.

... Portland was a Rain Forest when I was there in late July. Even rained a little while I was on set. Which was pretty much the entire time LOL. But everything was sooooo lush and green.

Update.  Pro kicked my a**.  The course was a marsh, it was flat and not clear where to hit the ball.  Good drive on one, pond hitting three.  Good drive on 3, really just left off my line, missed fairway and was behind a tree.  4?  Hit it at exactly what I was aiming at, I was behind, you guessed it, another effing tree.  I checked out.  Oh and the rough?  It was so wet I don’t think the rough had been mown for a week.  The fairway was long, the rough was brutal.  I would guess 4.5-5” long.  No idea what I shot, and I have never finished up said I hope I never play this again, but I did today.  But MT really is beautiful.  The backdrop to this dog track.
