New Balance 997G (Malbon or General Release) - Anyone try these? Are they any good as golf shoes?

I don’t wear that model, but the Fresh Foam Contend shoes I have are really good. Exceptional support for a shoe that light. Exceptional grip, and very comfortable. I was surprised how good these are.

Love NB's and 997's are one of my favorite models. Wonder how these feel on the course as well.

I had a pair. I liked them. Super comfortable. Ended up selling my pair as I wasnt in love with the colorway.

Based on a quick glance the toe box looks very pointed and narrow and they have a pretty high heel to toe drop.

Pretty steep for what looks like a standard $99 golf shoe. I do like the look of the mesh in the toe for the summer months.

I have a pair of the master's colorway from Malbon. They're exactly what you would think in terms of performance. That is, a 997 with an outsole for golf. The spikes and traction pattern of the outsole will ensure you have a stable grip/platform for your swing, so I don't think you'll find performance in that aspect to be lacking. Plus, if the spikes aren't to your liking, you can always switch them out for any spike that uses the fast twist 3.0 system.

 

In my opinion they do a great job of mixing a more casual style with some performance, but if you're looking for a shoe that has all the "new tech" bells and whistles (i.e. Adidas ultraboost type tech, or a Footjoy Tour Alpha or something), this may not be the shoe for you. 

 

Comfort-wise, I'm not sure I can give a great review since I've only played a couple of 9 hole walking rounds with these shoes. I didn't have any comfort issues through 9, and while I don't foresee any issues walking 18 holes, I can't say for sure. I saw that New Balance is releasing a non Malbon branded 997G, which looks like it uses a different type of their proprietary foam for the midsole, but I personally like the looks of the Malbon 997Gs more.

I have these and like them a lot, although I’ve never worn them on the course. Very comfy. Bought two different sizes and sold one for $50 more than I paid so, not bad. Looking forward to NB’s regular release with different midsole.

Im not a huge fan of all the stuff that Malbon comes out with but was late to this drop and have been checking back constantly to see if they restock smaller sizes.  Seems like a super comfy shoe thats relatively understated

I’m actually looking forward to the non-Malbon 997G release. A classic silhouette made for the course. Feel free to laugh away.

Reviving an old thread here.   Can anyone comment on how the sizing of new balance golf shoes are?  Similar to nike sizing?    I've found the nike Jordan 1 lows actually fit big and couldve gone half a size down so would be nice if all of my golf shoes weren't too big

I had two pairs at one point. I found them to be true to size.

Mine are pretty true to sneaker size. I'm a 9 in dress shoe brands that use true Brannock sizing and 9.5-10 in most sneaker brands. My 997G are 10's but I purposely bought them 1/2 size big because of narrow toe box and winter weight socks. With heel lock lacing they work great.

I had a fluke model and returned them for warranty because my feet were soaked after one round with general morning dew, wet grass. Not even in rain or anything. They were pretty comfortable though.
