Ok, so I am going to rant, but only because I am lucky enough to do so.

 

I have played a 2003 Newport 1.5 Prototype since 2008.  I love this putter, the black pearl finish peeled off, so I sent it to the putter lounge for a grey gunmetal finish and it looks even better in my opinion.  Added a BGT shaft, JumboMax Flat 17" grip with 100G of counterbalance and 3 layers of lead tape to the sole for added headweight.  Bingo.  Can not imagine a better putter.

 

But, then the Super Select Newport Plus is released.  The whole time I am telling myself, just buy one, chop the neck off and weld a 1.5 flowneck on it.  The Plus head shape is just so perfect.  More confidence inspiring for some reason.  Well, I never pull the trigger.

 

Then.

 

The H22 is released and I think I am a genius.  I waited, I never pulled the trigger on the Super Select and I was rewarded with the release of the H22.  I find an H22, buy it and can not wait to see it.  It arrives and within 2 seconds I am disappointed. 

 

So here is the rant.

 

Why, why, why would you put a full shaft offset neck on a Newport 1.5 Plus?  The Newport 1.5 should have a half shaft of offset. 

 

End of rant.

 

I will give the H22 a fair shot, but it is crazy how different a full vs half shaft of offset looks at address.

This is where custom putters are superior, get what you want, spend about the same or less than the H22 or the 1.5+ with neck modifications and don't have to wonder these questions.

PowerFade 36 - Not at all what I am asking.  I am simply asking why they had to change the 1.5 Newport neck.  I could be wrong, but I am pretty confident that all SC putters that carry the 1.5 Newport name are half shaft offset.  FYI pretty sure the H22 is from OTR price.

Who knows cause everything else with that FlowJet neck has 3/4 offset, I guess just different to be different.

Like 8yrs ago I wanted Tigers putter but instead of spending $3000+ on a circle T, I started looking around at Custom putter makers. Came across Slighter Golf and he had a stock head shape just like the Newport Two. Got to design everything I wanted on it, the head weight, length and lie and at the time spent about $100 more than what a Cameron cost. Truthfully it came out looking amazing and anytime I have ever looked at a friend's scotty, they just don't even look or sit as good as the Slighter does. We have been in a committed relationship ever since haha

Why don't you just have it adjusted to a 1/2 shaft of offset and double check the lie/loft at the same time?   Plenty of shops are capable of bending a putters offset without ruining the neck

Phabs - that is a good idea.  It would have to kind of a double bend.  First bend to just push it back, second to just move the top of the hosel back to where it needs to be.
