2023 Solheim Cup (Sep 22-24)

It will never happen, but Daniel and Lexi need to withdraw.  Daniel in particular.  Both are playing awful, and have been for months.  Watching them both play at the International Crown was painful.  Daniel couldn't find a fairway, despite barely hitting it past 200yds off the tee.

The other interesting thing was that some people seemed to feel that the pairing/singles sent out in the semi final didn't make best "use" of Danielle/Lexi and then based on interviews afterward it sounded like the selected strategy was based on advice that had come from....Stacy Lewis.

We hung out by the practice putting green right before the tee times at the International Crown.  Every single player would be out there 10-15 minutes early, working their way around the various cup positions.  Nelly and Lillia were grinding it out.  Making 50+ putts, lining up, following a routine.

Then Lexi and Danielle show up.  Lexi hit about 10-12 putts at one hole, and Danielle hit 3 balls in total.  She spent more time joking with her caddy, playing with her puffy coat etc.  We were only 6-8' away from her bag, and she was basically joking about how her game is so bad, hopefully they won't be relying on her putting.  Then her caddy jokes "or your driving."  LOLOLOLOL.

Lexi Thompson – how can she play?

With 2 more qualifying events, she is still expected to be an auto selection, but how can she accept a selection or why would the USA want her to play?

She’s become a part-time golfer this season with only 7 starts and is 156 in the CME rankings pre British Open! She’s missed the cut at the British so may fall further, 6 cuts missed now for this season out of 8.

Nothing special about her Solheim record @ 50% with 9.5 points out of 19 matches with 2-2-2 on Euro soil. No longer plays the Evian.

So poor current form and a meh Solheim record.

Stacy needs to have a word with her so she makes herself unavailable and if she won’t, then tell her you’ll only play her in the final day singles.

The US will need all guns firing to beat the Euros in Spain, can’t carry passengers.

Hope her Insta followers (so popularity and media ratings) doesn’t compromise the US fielding its best team.

Does an Alley Ewing British open win knock Lexi out of an auto qual spot?

Ally Ewing will reach 306.5 if she wins this week and Andrew Lee will reach 266.50 if she ties 2nd; both will be ahead of Lexi at 258.

Ally will knock Lexi out of automatic qualification; Lexi will drop to #9 on the list.

Maybe Lexi’s dog Leo is good for the team room?

Leo the comfort dog:classic_rolleyes:?

Maybe she can be a non-playing VC then?

Or just get a different dog.

something just tells me the powers that be are going to put #17 Rose Zhang on the team, which IMO would be an absolute crime

i'm guessing you think the solheim cup points works like the ryder cup which it doesnt there exists 2 spots based solely on rolex world ranking points that come after the 7 solheim points based spots rose has been ranked 30ish for some time which has put her in one of those spots.

Rose might fall behind Ewing when the rankings come out today and then need to be a captain’s pick. It’s going to be tight.

solheim cup cuttoff date is after CPKC Women's Open August 24th-27th

Yes, for the US Team. For Europe, next week is the final week. Not sure why the cut off is so far ahead of the tournament. Two years ago it was two weeks before, and that worked out pretty well for Europe.

Current US team setup:

18majors has already posted the top 7. In addition: Rose Zhang and Angel Yin qualify via the world rankings plus 3 picks (my guesses: Ally Ewing, Andrea Lee, Cheyenne Knight)

Current European team:

Celine Boutier and Maja Stark from the points list; Charley Hull, Leona Maguire, Georgia Hall, Linn Grant, Carlota Ciganda and Anna Nordqvist from the world rankings; and then 4 picks which will be a bit more difficult to predict as Suzann has quite a big list to choose from; to me nobody stands out as an automatic pick. Hoping she makes the right picks to have the best team to get the 3-peat.

I'll be on site at Finca Cortesin. Can't wait.

This article says even if Lexi falls out of the #7 spot for Solheim Cup Points, she will still be on the team via Rolex Rankings.  I.e. instead of Rose Zhang and Angel Yin, it will be Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang.

Not sure if there are any ways she can fall out of qualifying via both routes?

Vamos Lexi!

Lexi Thompson is in a slump that could cost her LPGA Tour status, but not a Solheim Cup spot (msn.com)

Interested to see who the Euro Capt picks will be

USA team looks good + Ewing, Knight, Andrea Lee.  Maybe if AP wins this week she will be considered 😂😅😭

Not so sure about that.

Despite being quality players, Lexi shouldn't be there on form and Solheim record and neither should Danielle Kang, consider this for Danielle:

She was 'off' in the International Crown, too.

Lexi and Danielle are liabilities for the US in this year's Solheim.

Both are cemented on the team unfortunately due to their Rolex ranking if they dont get in via Solheim pts earned.  I'd just play them the bare minimum and hope they do well in singles.
