Scotty Newport 2 real or fake?

Just kidding, it's totally fake. I always said if I found a fake lefty Newport that I had to get it to try. This came up, so I had to order it. These are pictures the seller sent me, it should be here in about a month. The branding was photoshopped out in the add, I didn't realize it was fully branded until I saw these pictures. It was $80 shipped.

It's coming via slow boat from China I assume. It says that it's machined in the USA, I'm guessing that's a lie. 🤣

I've actually never tried a real one, but I'm interested to see how it compares to my Haywood. I had never seen a lefty before, either, I'm honestly surprised just based on what limited marker.

And I'm almost positive this is the first fake lefty that I've ever seen.  Yah with the limited number of folks using lefties, it just wasn't a thing.  LOL pretty soon you'll probably be able to get a fake lefty Cameron easier than a real one from what all the lefties say.

I've always wanted to try one, but nobody stocks a lefty Scotty to try. I'm sure they are lovely, but a real one is more than my driver and I just can't justify that.

Cant justify a putter costing more than a driver? If u find the putter ur going to keep it possibly the rest of ur life. Plus resell value on putters hold better than drivers, some putters even gain value

Who says I wouldn't keep a putter that is a 1/10 the price? If I like it, I might keep it forever even if it was $15 used off eBay. 

 

But there isn't much for technology in a putter. What could possibly cost $200+ to manufacturer in order to sell for $400+? My Haywood is by far the most I've ever paid for a putter, but I also know where it's going. It's also VERY nice. And also didn't cost more than my driver.

I have also now seen a mid mallet advertised but not pictured. I'm still pretty surprised considering how small the lefty market is. Not sure how much effort it is, or if it's just using the "mirror" setting on a CNC mill. 🤣 

 

As a non expert, I'm curious of the differences. I saw a "spotters guide" that pointed out a few things I'm still not totally seeing, like the font used on the face being too big.

As a n00b who really hasn't seen the real deal in person, I would love it if you could point out the obvious flaws. @MattM97 thought it was one of the worst he's seen. To me it looks and feels like a quality putter. But what are the glaring flaws I should be aware of?

Ah ha! After looking at pictures, I noticed this ridge isn't milled concave. That's literally all I got.

Ok lets start with the easiest tell, the logo on the sole should be heel side not toe side, they just saw the bottom of the RH one and figured all are there.

 

The shape they used is more from the Studio Select NP2 with a camber sole and high toe, the Special Select NP2 is a slight tri-sole and avoids the need for a higher toe with a larger toe side bumper. The Bumper and Shoulder shapes are way wrong almost like an Odyssey or Ping shape they used for that and the width looks wider than it should be as well.

 

As mentioned the sole and the weights not sitting flush or even seating at all.

 

The biggest give away on a lot of fakes are the necks especially the hosel cups they cannot seem to get that right or just don't care enough to mill it out properly cause who looks at the neck and hosel cup besides full on putter degenerates?

 

Cherry bombs are off in size.

 

Funny enough heel text on the face looks right.

 

All in all just a really bad putter, to be fair and honest that Pecial Select 2 is a much better fake in terms of milling and quality just from the eye test.

Thanks a lot, that's helpful. I saw Golf Galaxy has a right in stock, so I'm going to go look at it tomorrow.

 

I think the pictures from the ad are of the real thing and photoshopped, but I could be wrong. 

 

It actually putts really well. I don't like it more than my Haywood, but this is damn nice. Guess it's going in the bag with my fake Miura's 🤣

But are the letters that crooked (M looks bigger by the E than the A)? They look off to me. My V8 cover should be here tomorrow.

Well yeah, it was $15. There's one on eBay for $400, but I figured this one could handle the job. I didn't know it was a limited edition when I bought it, just thought it was cool.
