Golf Pride CP2 Pro grips

Kirium

Recommended Posts

So last week I had my driver re-gripped and put a Golf Pride CP2 Pro grip on it.  I live in Edmond, OK (northern suburb of Okc) and it's humid here.

Anyway, while playing the other day it was amazing how much my hand slipped on the grip in the humidity/sweaty hand.

I think I'm switching back to the MCC Plus 4.  Luckily I didn't grip all my clubs.

Anyone else experience this with the Cp2 pro?

What grips do you all use in humid areas ?  I have Winn Dri-Tac 2.0 on my irons but would prefer a little more feel.

Yes the CP2's, & Tour Wraps are known to not be the best in wet/sweaty conditions. I use tour wraps, but always use a glove and have a half damp towel to clean and dry the grips in those conditions. I'm about 15 hours north of you, so those conditions are not nearly as prevalent.

Yea, I was cleaning and wiping it after every use as well as my hand.  I had a glove on my left hand but still just crazy slick on my right to where it was just bugging the crap out of me.  I actually switched to my 4 Wood the last few driving holes simply because of the grip.

I see a fair number of CP2's among amateur players around here. I've never understood the appeal of those or any other wrap grip, to be honest. They look "slick" to me right out of the packaging.

I play in super humid conditions pretty much all the time - and the Tour Velvet, Crossline, Iomic Sticky (or equivalent) have always worked the best for me.

I like the wrap style grip because I've always played them, and my fingers fit in the "grooves" of the wrap. Feels like they give me more control. Now if I played in the conditions you guys do all the time, I may have to reconsider my choice.

Funny you mention tour velvets, for me those damn things are the slickest grip I've tried. Cut everyone off immediately if they come on a new/used club purchase...lol

Ain't that always the way with this game. We golfers are such odd people.

I live just north of you up in Enid, I play Tour Velvets and MCCs year round with no issues.  Now if I could find a glove that holds up in the humidity...

Funny you mention that. I've moved to the Vice glove and it's been fantastic. I bought three and it's held up so well I still have two in their package in my bag because the first has held up so dang well.

I live down near the coast. It's always humid here and I don't wear a glove except for the absolute worst days. I have had good luck with the Z Grip Cords and the MCC New Decade grips. Tried a CP2 once and it felt great inside but couldn't have been slicker if it tried once the humidity hit it. Winn's are the same for me as well. Have one on my putter but that's it.

I been using GP CP2 Pro grips for years, and live in SOCA, frequent AZ, TX and HI.  My hands don't sweat, and I wipe the grip of the club I am about to use, and after use, so encounter zero grip issues.

If I lived in a humid climate I would switch to a grip that was designed to withstand moisture, like the MCC grips on my set of 620 MBs.

yes, when I lived in Scripps Ranch (SD) and then up into Temecula, I never worried about humidity 🙂

The Superstroke Cross Comforts are very similar to the CP2 but have much better damp grip. I have one wedge with a CP2 and one the with Cross Comfort. I've wet my hangs and grabbed each club. The CP2 loses almost everything, but I can still manage a decent grip with the Crosscomforts.

Well, different strokes for different folks. Absolutely love the CP2 Pro wrap as well as the Tour Wrap 2G. All you have to do is have a damp towel and wipe

them down if needed while playing and they are tacky and great. Played them for years in Louisiana. No problem. Such a comfortable grip. Feels great.

The MCC plus 4 is seemingly everywhere and I really cannot stand that grip. Feels rough and bulky. I hate the feel of it in my hands. Don’t like how the lower part of the grip feels at all. Any club I buy with that grip gets changed immediately.

I totally agree with you on the MCC grips. I used them for a few years and found the bottom half of the grip to wear very fast and get slippery no matter what I did to keep them clean. I’ve used the Tour Velvets for a long time but switched over to the CP2 Wraps when they first came out. I’ve never had an issue with the CP2. The only grip I’ve tested that could replace the CP2 is the Lamkin Sonar+ wrap.

Curious for those that use these in their irons…any impact dampening vs NDMC, Tour Velvet, Zcord, etc?

I’m looking for a softer impact but trying to retain some feedback. Hoping the CP2 Pro is a nice balance.

you'll definitely get way more feedback than you need from cp2. Flushed shots feel great and mishits get dampen but enough to know.

softer than TV and obviously way softer than zcord and moisture management ain’t bad at all. Don’t know what NDMC is

Thanks, good to hear. NDMC is new decade multi compound.

Oh haha yeah I know those I always referred to them as MCCs. But same as I’ve had them too. Way more vibration dampening than mcc as well just a benefit of the upper corded portion for grip traction but personally not that big of a factor

For those of you who ply the cp2 grips do you prefer the wrap or the pro?

also, when installing them, do you have to wait longer than normal for them to dry? I had one last year that I waited like 12-24 hours and when I swung it, the logos on the back of the club were twisting from swinging it.

I play the pro’s and have been for years. They aren’t as stable of a grip when installing (they move very easily), but haven’t had drying issues.

That’s most likely due to humid conditions (slow/poor drying), not long enough tape, bad tape or a bad reaction between your solvent and tape (this usually shows as gummy textured glue balls, they just push out the front of the grip when installing)
