Would really appreciate swing help, Killing myself but can't figure it out!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, attached are 4 views of my swing. Would really appreciate the help!

- Front and Back with driver

- Front and Back with 6 iron

I am really struggling with good contact and consistency of strike. If you could please help critic my swing I would really appreciate it. I am watching hours of youtube videos and getting lessons as well. I can tell aspects of my swing (especially at the top of the swing and the transition) don't look right and was wondering what that could be and any drills I could do to fix.

My main misses: Heel/hozzle stroke with the irons (poor contact overall); with the driver during my last round I seemed to be push slicing it as well as topping the ball quite a bit, when I went on the range I was hooking the ball much more (weird).

First please edit your post. You pasted it twice.

Swing wise. Bend your legs. They look like they are made of wood at address. You seem to reverse pivot in the backswing and your weight stays on your left side too much. Feel more tilt away at the top. Right shoulder over right foot.

I would get your right thumb on the left side of the grip. Not down the middle.

This causes the downswing to be underneath and arms stuck behind. Leads to hooks to pushes.

A lot of nice things going on though. I wouldn't worry about downswing yet as it could fix itself. Dont hit drivers while practicing. Slow motion half swings with a mid iron. Slowly add speed and more backswing as u go.

great point, I have really bad shoulder turn, and also I feel like I don’t have any shoulder tilt, do you see that as an issue too? Any suggestions on tempo?

It looks like the right leg is locking out in the backswing rather than keeping some bend in it, this might stop some rotation in the backswing as the backswing is very short, I'd be curious to know your yardage with driver. What is the ball flight like, high or low?

Driver: Ping G430 Max 9 degree, Tour chrome 2.0 65 stiff

Fairway: Ping G430 3 metal, Tour chrome 2.0 75 stiff

Hybrid: Ping G430 3 hybrid, Tour chrome 2.0 85 stiff

Irons: Wilson Dynapower 5-SW, UST Mamiya Recoil Dart stiff 65

Wedge: Cobra snakebite 2023 black full face 58 degree, 125 stiff

Putter: TaylorMade Corza Ghost Tour

Ball: white, round with dimples

This thread on early extension directly applies to you and is probably the reason for your heel/hosel strikes. Watch the video there. Your left hip moves towards the ball in your backswing while your right hip stays put, then your right hip moves forward to match it in your downswing. From DTL, your tush line moves 2-3” towards the ball.

Also seeing a big upper body slide in downswing. Hips should move 3-6” forward, but head shouldn’t follow.

Your segments are out of position in the backswing. The way your are loading the body in your backswing is causing all of your problems. The relationship of your pelvis and upper body as well as the timing in which they do things is off. Among other things, the most obvious issue this creates is that your pelvis moves closer to the ball in the backswing.

This is not super complex or difficult to change but it’s not a quick internet fix.

thanks for this feedback, I think I can feel that as well. Do you have a video you can reference or explain more about the backswing sequencing?

Way to get good vids up..... all these guys asking stuff and never post vids

Get that right thumb off the middle of shaft..... get it left side.  I know feels natural but right thumb will take over making micro adjustments you dont want

You dont load at top of backswing

But no reason you can't be a good player lol

Can't figure how to like my own posts

Do you just pick whatever Golf Coach speak you think applies and cut and paste?  I'm almost positive Ive read those exact responses in another thread.

He's posted the same thing about how golf is bassackwards eight or so times already. It's not only not adding value, it's subtracting it.

Walking sideways. Step right and you're supported and balanced on your right foot, leg and hip as your left side swings. Then step left and the right side swings. All blended together in the shift turn, shift turn sequence.

Loading.... its when you gather all momentum on backswing so you can have an efficient powerful downswing.... has to do with sequencing your swing correctly.  Imagine the club was really heavy... you would have to respect the weight and move body accordingly like an axe, but clubs are light so players get in trouble by getting too quick at the top of backswing and lose their rhythm, like your swing.  You can have a fast or slower swing but still load at the top...

Hmmm lots of technique issues going on here that others have started to pull apart.  Generally speaking though, I’d like to see you get some kind of flexible weighted club like an orange whip or similar knock off on Amazon and just practice swinging back and forth in one fluid motion without stopping. Tons of YouTube videos out there. You could do about a 100 smooth swings like this a day for a week and see improvement I believe. Can be done at home or wherever there is room. Will help with tempo/timing and may even address some of the weight shift and sequence going on in the backswing.
