That makes no sense. Consider it this way:

• If everyone parks OFF the cart path, the grass beside the cart path is worn out by EVERY cart.
• If everyone parks ON the cart path, the grass is worn out only by the few carts per day who have to drive past you.

Ask the superintendent which one he prefers.

Plenty of courses here don't offer a nine hole rate. 

 

They may have a back 9 rate for early morning players before the folks on the front have had time to make the turn, but that's it. 

 

Those who want to play after work are usually paying super-twilight rate which is typically pretty minimal, and it's "as many holes as you can finish" at that point.

It was a packed public course on a Sunday morning and my friend and I had the 10:50 tee time.  About 3 minutes before our time the starter rolled up and said there was supposed to be a twosome with us but he didn’t know where they were.  My friend told the starter that he heard someone say they had the 10:50 tee-time.  The starter said to go down to the tee and if he found them he'd send them down.

 

My friend was worried that we shouldn’t tee off without them.  At 10:52, I said, the green is clear, they’re going to think we are the hold up.  I'm hitting.  So, off we went.  As we were putting  on #1, a short par 4, the twosome arrived at the tee.  After our tee shots on #2, we had to wait on nearly every shot.  While we were waiting on the #3 tee, the twosome rolled up and I asked if they wanted to join us.  “no, we’re good”  was the answer.

 

My feeling was, the starter told us to go, and they weren’t on the tee at the tee time.  But, should I have waited?

 

 

Wow. Misread that. Yes once you asked them to join you you did all the right things. The foursome behind that twosome might not be happy but you’re in the clear

As I stood on the tee, I wondered if I was being rude to the random twosome by going ahead, or rude to the rest of the tee sheet by waiting any longer.  So, I went ahead.  I wasn't 100% sure it was the right thing to do, but the responses have convinced me it was the right decision.

 

I know a number of beginner golfers who fear getting paired up with a stranger.  I understand that.  But when the course is packed, you don't get the option to play as a twosome.

Actually, it sounds like playing as a twosome is exactly what those guys did. Mission accomplished from their POV.

 

A lot of things that aren't supposed to be an option can be done if you're rude and inconsiderate enough to just front it up.
