Spike wear

Recommended Posts

I have a 2 year old set of adidas spikes. Replaced the spikes to start the year. Since then one particular spike I’ve had to replace after almost 2-3 9s with little practice, just course play. It’s on the trail foot under the big toe. Is this normal? Is there a shoe that doesn’t have this issue? Is it better to just move to metal spikes?

whats spikes are you using?

I've recently gone back to removable spike shoes, after wearing Adidas 360 22' and Next% for a while

On my old victory tours 2, I used the pro stingers metal spikes to great effect, with less clogging, and great grip. the black paint does come off of them pretty much as soon as you step on grass though.

Recently put some of the new Tour Flex Pro Golf Spikes on my TW14's to try out and they're great for harder ground, but with any rubber spike, it will clog up with grass on wet mornings or rainy rounds. but they are very durable https://www.softspikes.co.uk/products/tour-flex-pro)

so to answer your question I would try some metal spikes and see how you go, or, depending on what spikes you get that are wearing out fast, to maybe go for a 'harder' spike

Thanks. Adidas shoes. Went with the stealth this year and it’s like the spike itself is peeling off, not even wearing down. I have put them in correctly

Maybe it's how you're walking or swinging. Could be dragging in that specific spot.

It seems the the issue is you replaced the OEM Adidas cleats with Softspike Stealth cleats, and, you are experiencing excess wear on one spike. It is not normal, but, it can happen if you drag your toe in the follow through - fwiw, I wear down that spot when hitting off of mats, and, primarily, wear spikeless shoes. It is hard to say if another shoe would be better for you since, we don't know what shoe you are wearing - a picture could be helpful. As for metal spikes, very few golf courses allow the usage of metal spikes, so, I would be cautious about going that route.

The easy answer might be to switch back to the Adidas cleats, or, at least a lower profile spike. You might check with your local golf shop, you really only need 1 spike, and, they may give one to try.

Makes sense. I am in the stealth soft spikes. The spike in upper right is what is wearing fast (tearing off). I noticed the same issue on lead leg outside heel side. I guess this means I am moving pressure properly. I do also wear out the side of the shoe on my trail foot due to dragging the toe. I see it on my athletic shoes I use for overspeed too.

I use to have the same problem with Black Widow spikes. Those long unsupported arms might great for traction, but, they seem to tear off. I seem to recall the Champ Stinger spike being a little more durable, but, it has been a couple of years since, I have purchased any replacement spikes.

thanks. sadly, the only choices for my shows, since they use the PINS system, Stealth, black widow, pulsar and helix. Out of those, I suppose the pulsar are my best option from ripping apart?

If you wear that spot on regular shoes you'll wear it on golf shoes unless you completely change your gait which doesn't happen over night.

Could always try the Helix spike there looks to be a bit more durable for a spike. The Pulsar you'll probably tear up pretty fast with the design of that spike.

It's kind of the nature of shoe unfortunately, I basically tear apart the outside of my lead foot with my swing transition on most of my shoes.

The choices do appear to be slim for replacement PINS cleat. I actually have some Helix cleats that I bought as spare cleats, when, I purchased my Adipure's. I have never had to use them, so, I can't comment on durability. An off the wall suggestion might be some knockoff spikes from ebay. But, if you didn't want to go that route, the Helix may be the most durable.

I have used the Sofspike Stealth for years with no problem. Since the poster said the issue only occurs on one spike my guess is it’s his swing or walking style. For more durability the Champ Scorpion will probably give the best life but they do feel firmer underfoot. For the suggestions on metal spikes that’s probably a no-starter as virtually every course now bans them.

I went and got some helix to day. Will see. Also some stingers for my old footjoys that I use in my park for practice and speed training. Will see which ones I like better. Might also need a shoe change if my adidas keep wearing at the toe. I just wear through shoes like crazy. Thanks for all the feedback.

First nine with the helix. great traction and held up well. Will see if those spots hold up after a couple more nines.
