Putting with an open stance/setup

I see this often during lag putting, but I have been toying with my regular putts having a more open setup. Front foot flared out slightly, therefore opening the shoulder just a tad, playing the ball maybe a ball inside of my front heel. It feels a thousand times less robotic than your standard setup. Anyone putt this way or have thoughts on it? Surely there have been pros that have done this.

I started golf with that setup and averaged under 30 putts per round. Like a stupid guy, I changed to square. Been forcing this setup for a few years and never made it work. Recently went back to squaring the putter face and then taking whatever stance feels right for the break.  99% of the time I'm wide open and can see the hole at setup out of the corner of my eye. Weight slightly forward ball just inside forward foot. Works great, very natural, and I putt much better.

Since my shoulders naturally want to be open  I do the same with my feet. Let's the stroke flow better for me.

Yeah, and of those pros, the most notable is probably every single one of the best putters of all time :)

 

I could post a bunch of pictures but to save bandwidth, if you go look at Ben Crenshaw, Tiger Woods, Jack, Arnie, etc. Almost every single one of them has a slightly open putting stance when they were putting their best.

 

Here's one good example I found where somebody drew all the lines already

I had Creshaw in mind, but never noticed that about Tiger's set up

Me too. Most comfortable open, when I try and put square up my stance my putter makes a loop outside in.

I putt with pretty much the same stance Nicklaus used. Kind of hunched down and very open to the target. Just seems easier to see the line I want to start the ball on. And since I'm chocked way down on the putter shaft it's easier to control.

Have putted with open stance for most of my golfing life. Better view and feel more connected to my body. Ball position has gotten awry lately so am back to squaring up

Have started putting with an open stance about a month ago, like I did in my youth. I putt with the front foot open as well about 30 degrees and ball position in the middle of shoe. Well it ain’t pro level numbers but I’m making more putts per round and giving me some ease of seeing the line from my left dominant eye ( LH golfer ) . I still suck but not nearly as much as I did. Have gone down 1 on my hcin

For putting an open stance is ok, but open shoulders usually leads to mishit putts.
