Cobalt Q6 slope

Recommended Posts

I love the scanning feature but I was used to it as that’s what my previous rangefinder utilized to lock on to pins.  That part is easy for me to get the vibrate to work 100% of the time.

what is the zoom feature I keep reading about? Just the eye piece rotating?

Used my Cobalt Q6 slope this whole past season. Previously used Bushnell and Blue Tees (left it on the cart and "lost" it).   For me it is the best rangefinder I've had.  The display is great and love the fact you can change the brightness on the fly with the wheel.  I don't miss the actual distance being displayed in lieu of just seeing the slope distance and degree of change.  It's so easy to just flip the switch instantaneously if you wish but I find I don't need that at all.  Accuracy is seriously on point and so fast to acquire.  Build quality is top notch which is expected at this price point.  Not having a magnet means I won't "lose" this one by forgetting it on the cart. LOL!

It has been a pleasure to use so far.  No fear of “cheap product/wrong distance” and feels like a tank.  I haven’t really missed the slope and actual distance in display yet.  Thought that in the magnet would be a big hangup for me. So far I do like putting it in the cupholder because I don’t feel I will forget it. The best feeling of all, though, is knowing it is waterproof in the warranty. I played early in the morning yesterday and it got wet a few times while I laid it on the wet grass as it was cartpath only With no fears of not working. Love this thing so far.

If anyone lives in Orange County, Ca and want to go in on this together (Q6 slope 347.50 each which includes shipping) lmk. I don’t think they charge tax but shipping is $20.

I should have waited.

I wish they would just do the 25% per. I’d be in on it already if that was the case. Even at 20% I’d likely be in. Rest of my friends either bought the callaway thru Amazon or cheapest available via Amazon ($85). I really don’t want to risk buying a cheap one and hate the lag or lack of water proofing and cheap quality feeling.

Guess I’m glad I pulled the trigger already.  I’m impatient. Was trying to wait for this Black Friday sale as they did one last year.  I spoke to their customer service in October and they told me they were going to have a sale so I assumed that would be it.  I had 300 and gift cards so I went ahead and pulled the trigger at $450, so out-of-pocket only $150. I still love a sale though. It’s a great rangefinder so far. I slightly missed the magnet but love the red display and the build quality.  I mostly love the lifetime warranty. I have always been a precision pro fan and was so mad that my third rangefinder from PP gave out was so little rain on it that I made my mind up I was getting this one.

Just picked one of these up for my birthday from Amazon, optics are top notch and the red glowing display is super easy to read. Thing is built like a tank, and the controls are dead easy. Bought this mostly to verify approach shots. I use Arccos and multiple times when using the app on my Apple Watch I got bad distance readings and club recommendations causing me to fly the green. Took it out on the course with me today and sure enough it probably saved me at least 2 stokes. “Trust but verify” :)… long story short I feel like this just gives me more options and a more complete picture to help me make (better?) decisions on the course. Unit seems super accurate too which adds confidence. Love the vibration feature when it hits the pin. I have used some of my buddies cheaper rangefinders but those seem like toys compared to this guy. Lifetime warrantee seemed like a no brainer too. This seems like one of those spend the money and only buy it once kind of things.

7x Magnification.  Other than the Cobalt, it's mainly just the top of the line Bushnells that offer 7x.  95% of other range finders on the market are 6x magnification.  I did try the blue tees series 3 max that claimed 7x magnification, but I didn't notice the difference between that an my previous 6x magnification bushnell.  It was one of the reasons I returned the Blue Tees within 30 days.

IMO, the 7x magnification may not seem like much, but it's just nice to have.  If you take your normal 6x range finder and are able to clearly see something like the edge of a bunker from 150 yards away...you'll see it with the same clarity from 175 yards away.  Someone may say that from 175 yards away the average amateur is not that precise.  To which I'll say that when using a range finder, you're not just getting yardages to the target, but also yardages to your miss areas which are not as easy to shoot as a pin (such as edges of bunkers, edges of water hazards, etc..

Pretty much any range finder can shoot a pin 175-200 yards away accurately.  But if a green has water in front, I will often shoot the distance to carry the water, as well as the distance to carry the front edge of the green.  So I may end up with 200 to the pin, 186 to the front edge of the green, and 169 to carry the water.  In that case, my 210 club should be fine, and if I miss hit, I'm likely still over the water.  But if I shoot 200 to the flag, 193 to the front edge of the water, and 185 to carry the water, I might pull out my 220 club instead and take a bit off of it.  Or just pick a much more conservative line that doesn't bring as much water into play.  That's the difference with 7x zoom and great optics.  How confident are you in shooting targets that are typically more difficult to shoot from distance.

I’ve been using mine since I got it during the Black Friday sale and I absolutely love it. I thought not having the adjusted and non-adjusted yardages would be a big detractor but I actually like how there’s one clean number in the display. I read about how accurate it is but it is definitely reassuring that I get the same number when I hit a target just about every time.

I still have my Cobalt and I agree it is great. Looks exactly the same as it did when I got it. I have had it 6 months and I still have 2/3 of a battery showing (and I play every week). The zoom feature continues to amaze me.

Zoom? You mean the eye piece rotation?

The Q-6 Slope has been out a while.  It's a great unit but I really don't like not having both the slope and normal yardage on the same screen and the magnet.  I wonder when Cobalt is slated to release a new version and if it will address those issues?  I emailed them a while back but didn't get a response.

I hesitated because of this but now that I have one, I likely wouldn’t trade it for one that displayed both yardages together.

Slope is nice to have but it seems like on 99.5% of shots it's not really needed unless you constantly play hilly courses with a ton of elevation changes. Just my observation on playing and using a range finder.

I found if you just flicked the dial after shooting the target (and needing the other distance) is already there for you without having to re-shoot. I actually leave it on slope 95% time, but it hasn’t bothered me like I thought it would.   But I wanted the warranty more than anything.  Love the build quality.
