Golf equipment ads: Truth or Lies?

I've been watching the Golf channel on a regular basis and I've noticed that there have been a lot of commercials shown from the SQAIRZ golf shoe company.

 

The ads have evolved over time claiming to provide benefits from harnessing the ground forces to curing the slice.

 

In my opinion, I think this is all hogwash. I believe that common sense will tell you that what they claim is far-fetched with no data to back it up. There may also be other golf equipment commercials out there that I'm not aware of but I think they are no better than snake-oil salesmen. 

 

Please share other commercials out there that fit in this category or if there are legit golf equipment that will shave strokes of your game please share as well.

I believe that most of the golf ads we see are largely BS.  I can see those shoes "maybe" helping someone get a more stable stance in wet conditions, but nothing more than that.  It seems to me that one underlying concept of the golf marketing game is the idea that a piece of equipment, device, or whatever, will improve your game without you having to put in the time to work on your weaknesses.  I forgot the specific product, but years ago, there was an ad for some golf club where the pitch-man literally said,...."you don't need to change your swing....you need to change your equipment."  

 

Golf is a game that can lead to obsession where many folks will nearly sell their soul to improve and get "good" at the game.  Many of these ads appeal to the emotions and obsessions that struggling golfers have as they want so badly to improve.  They offer false hope of a simple fix by using their product.

 

I will say, however, that the Orlimar Trimetal and some of the range-finders proved to be legitimate products.

Honestly, whatever ya gotta do to get folks to buy. In your job, how many things that are said are total BS? 😄 Lots..... chances are. hehe

 

There are a lot of things out there that are supposed to aid the golfer, but few of them actually do once you get away from the traditional tried and true aids.

It is all about getting people to spend money. Take strength trainers for example. It isn't that no benefit can be had.... but for the same money I can buy a few used free weights to accomplish the same thing. I can also use those free weights to improve physique overall. Some elastic cord with a handle and an anchor so I can "strengthen my core?"

I can actually do that without weights.

 

A lot of it is all about distance, but none of the commercials say "refine your swing for more distance." Not even YouTube does that.

 

It's always... "Use this trick." LOL

To an extent I suppose.  At some point you become "the boy who cried wolf" company and consumers don't even consider your products any longer.

Yeah that ad for SQUAIRZ is such BS. Especially when it starts out with some idiot stating that he has been studying the ground for 25 years. Seriously, what a DA.

That's a great observation, SEP1006. I took a peek at the guy's linkedin profile and it only listed him as a founder for 5 years and 9 months so that claim is a crock of big Sh*t.

Definitely a lie. Sqairz golf shoes are suppose to add 8 yards.

I think it’s 8 yds per shoe. They are coming up a little short here. Definite refund.

Do the commercials have the usual informercial-esque "competitor product fails?!?!"

You know, like the idiot that doesn't know how to use a REGULAR pot to boil water and cook spaghetti and ends up with it all over their shirt whilst making an exaggerated "armsy" gesture like "WTF?!?!"

I love those.... Make routine tasks look hard, and then insert useless and unnecessary "solution!" 😆

Whatever on Sqairz shoes but for me they are extremely comfortable, better than most other shoes I've owned.
