Been To Any Concerts Lately?

My wife and I haven't been to any concerts since last year when we saw Johnny Mathis and then later The Doobie Brothers.

We did attend a Hawaiian concert last Saturday night with dontations going to Lahaina on Maui.

This coming week we're going to see Chicago at Mountain Winery and then next month we'll see Three Dog Night in Tahoe.

Both concerts will definately bring back memories of my youth.

I'm 63.  This summer we saw lady Gaga ( my daughter had tix she couldn't use) and ed Sheeran.  Both were at very large venues.  People-watching at Gaga was quite entertaining.  We left early to avoid traffic issues.  Didn't leave Sheeran early, and I'll never go to a concert at a big venue again if I have to drive.  The small venues are the way to go, though I have no desire to see any old fogies from my youth.  Most voices don't hold up well.

Went to see The Eagles last year.  Very good show.  Henley's still got a good voice.  A well oiled machine and they were excellent.  Joe Walsh can still shred the guitar, but he really has to stop singing.  Vince Gil being younger, provides the singing range that the others can't do.

Saw John Fogherty and Elton a few years ago.  Their voices are gone and have been gone for a while.  Still, they were good shows.

Two weeks ago - Foreigner with Loverboy opening. Foreigner still rocks hard and it's a great show. Loverboy didn't rock has hard and Mike Reno had to scale back some of the higher notes but a good opener.

Last night - Night Ranger. Sound wasn't great but I'll put that on the acoustics of the natural amphitheater. It was a rockin' show but it's not 1983 and it shows some.

Dude, you are the show.  I like concerts, wanted to see franks and dean but that was a no go.

Dead & Co in January, Foo Fighters, Train, Nathaniel Rateliff, going to U2 later, will probably see Alice In Chains as well.

Did I mention, when in Vegas, why can’t I see Franks and Dean?

Hahah but playing shows includes attending shows! My favorites we've played with this year? Either Boss' Daughter (Reno based) or The Bama Lamas (Chicago based). Very different - both very rad. Los Mal Hablados is goddamn amazing as well.

Other than Weenie Roasts (first Wednesday of every single month at the Double Down Saloon!) ... we don't play in Vegas all that much!

Not the answer I want.  We will be stupid in your hometown in September then we have to come back in October.  When we walk into the Double Down in seersucker shorts and a polo, know that’s us.

My man, I'll meet ya there any time yall wanna go.

And it's funny. While the DD gets sold as this hardcore punk rock bar of divey disgustingness - which it absolutely is - it's welcoming to everyone. I've been one of "the guys" there for over 20 years now. I've seen every kinda person in there you can imagine having a blast.

@aenemated depending on how much of your payroll tax I pay at the el cortez you may just be hearing from me/us.  It’s not easy being me, sadly, and Vegas never really sets up for a schedule.

We don't do that whole "schedule" thing around here. You seen the times I'm posting!

RHCP recently in Houston put on a great show.  Sound was meh, but such is life in arenas. (The show was at Minute Maid Ballpark.)  Very high energy, and for as long as they've been playing, Kiedis doesn't seem to have lost much range.  Contrast with, say, Siouxsie, whose recent set at the Cruel World show...did not sound great.  Could be an artifact of youtube or the person recording the show.

Anyway, if the Chilis decide to make a live album from this tour, it should be a good one.  Funny enough, The Strokes were on before them and their sound was very good, but the band was awful.  I wonder if Julian was actually drunk, and the band seemed to be confused about which key they were playing in.  Disappointing.

We don't go to many shows.  Usual preference is for a small venue, and unless you're a titan of industry needing entertainment for your birthday party, that's not happening for a major act.  Had a great time seeing Chuck Prophet and Dale Watson (in separate shows) though earlier this year.  Devil's Backbone outside of San Antonio, is a great place to catch a show like those.

Though for a group like Rammstein, you need the arena...  Fantastic show at the Alamodome. Three hours of German opera.  With FIRE!

We saw the peppers last summer at Allegiant.  I concur on all points, they were great but…

I saw them in ‘85 when they opened for Burning Spear then in ‘88 (I think) supporting uplift mofo party plan.  When they played last summer it was a lot of the stuff from later on, and they really only played one rocker (Give it away) and it was obvious why.  The bass was just all over the stadium at that speed and it didn’t sound great.

My wife and I went to the Chicago Concert at Mountain Winery and it was amazing!  Mountain Winery is an outdoor venue and only holds 2,500.

We were six rows from the stage and they sounded the same as the old days with three original members still in the band.

We had VIP tickets so we had our pictures taken with the band and we were given Chicago mememorabilia as well. Our ticket package included a fine dining dinner at Chateau La Cresta which is outdoors and overlooks the valley. The prix fixe dinner was delicious!

If you have a chance to see Chicago, I'd highly recommend it!

Sadly, I’ve finally come to realize that I now feel the same way. I saw the Eagles last year and the Stones the year before that and realized that it’s just not the same experience it once was. And holy sheet - ticket prices are insane! Had to see the Stones to keep my streak intact, having now seen them in 6 consecutive decades.

Interestingly, it was at a Stones’ show in the 90s when I realized that there may not be as many concerts in my future as I would have thought. Opening acts were Matchbox 20, Dave Matthews and the Smashing Pumpkins. It was at the Texas Motor Speedway and our seats were awful, so we arrived early to see if we could improve our view. Got real close for MB20, but the crowd kept filling in and we kept getting ousted. We settled into some pretty good seats right in the middle. During the Pumpkins, I took a glance around the crowd and noticed the head banging in unison. I nudged my wife and told her I thought we were a bit out of place. We both had a good chuckle over it.

My wife and I saw Earth Wind and Fire and Lionel Richie in Tampa last week.  My wife and I went primarily for EW&F but were really surprised how terrific Lionel Richie was.  EW&F were awesome and Lionel Richie was the consummate entertainer (and excellent).

I don't know if there is another concert on our schedule before March when we see Foreigner in St. Augustine.  I would bet there will be.

Driver:  TaylorMade 300 Mini 11.5° (10.2°), Fujikura Ventus Blue 5S Velocore

3W:  TaylorMade M4 15°, Graphite Design Tour AD DI 7S

Hybrid:  TaylorMade Sim2 2 Iron Hybrid 17°, Mitsubishi Tensai AV Raw Blue 80 stiff

Irons:  Mizuno Pro 223 4-PW, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

GW / SW: Mizuno T-22, 52° (bent to 50°)/ 56° (bent to 54°), True Temper S400

LW:  Scratch Golf 1018 forged 58° DS, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

Putter:  Byron Morgan Epic Day custom, Salty MidPlus cork grip

Grips:  BestGrips Augusta Microperf leather slip on

Saw Smash Mouth at our town's music festival they host last Saturday.  Gin Blossoms are playing a small venue up the road from me tomorrow night but probably skipping out on that.

Smash Mouth is from SJ, CA so was curious what they up to and Googled. I see original lead singer is gone! Sucks as he WAS the band! HAHA

Intended to take my boys to Joe Russo’s Almost Dead here on Friday, but the whole household is down sick. Major bummer.

Went to Dead & Co. in June. Excellent seats, no photos after the concert started because I was so into the music, no photos! Hard to describe the level of excellence that night. 3 1/2 hours of wall-to-wall music 😯 plus about a 35 minute break. So good. Thank you Bobby for keeping the songs alive, and John Mayer is remarkable.

My last concert was two years ago for a buddy's bachelor trip. We went to Rockville in Daytona. They went all 4 nights, I just made Fri-Sun. Got to see Metallica close twice which was awesome, Fri night they played all the hits and what not, Sun night they played the Black album from back to front. Saw all sorts of acts I had wanted to see: Offspring, Social Distortion, Pennywise, Staind, Disturbed, and Mudvayne along with a couple others. Heard jellyroll for the first time as well, he played a side stage and was pretty decent.

Wanted to go to the When We Were Young festival in Vegas but couldnt really understand how it was all setup. Think it was just a one day thing. If it had been a weekend fest, I would have gone. So many bands I still listen to played there.

My bucket list is Billy Joel and Foo Fighters. Would love to see these shows.
