What do you use to track stats?

Recommended Posts

I looked for the right system all summer. A good friend uses Arccos.  He has it up when we play and I got enamored with the amount of data it collects.  He uses it conjunction with his iPhone and iWatch and rarely uses his range finder anymore. It tracks all of his shots and has compiled data on his game/distances, etc.

I tried Arrcos in the past, but I am not a fan of sensors on the end of the club. It's a personal issue. I really need longer clubs (according to my club fitter).  I grip the club at the VERY end which made the 'give' of the sensors feel like the club was unstable in my hands.

I'm not using the Garmin S42. It doesn't have sensors in the club. But it does have an 'auto tracking' feature that uses the accelerometer in the watch to capture when you've hit a ball. It then prompts you to enter what club you hit. Now that I've used it awhile, it defaults to suggesting a club I usually hit that distance. It's become second nature to enter a club after a shot  But if you forget, you can still enter it manually during/after the round on the app.  I've had it miss one shot in 6 rounds.  It's surprisingly accurate/reliable.

It has captured all of my full and partial swing data. The only thing it can't do without the sensors is capture putting and shorter chip shots.   The plus side is there are no subscriptions or additional costs.

While I love the S42, I've manually captured round data with The Grint app for years. It's supposedly adding auto tracking functionality via an iWatch any day now.  That may be a game changer for me as I have 6 years of round data in The Grint and would rather not use two apps to track everything.

I used GameGolf for years, then tried Arccos and am now using a Shot Scope watch. I really like the GPS function of the watch, and the stat tracking is good enough for my needs.

Garmin S62. It will give you average total distance by club, as well as some other data, like fairways hit, GIR, etc., and calculate your handicap. It has a sensor that recognizes each shot you hit and the GPS knows where you hit from/to. You just select the club. You’ll need something else to measure carry distance.

The GPS is outstanding. For me, the stats are just a bonus.

Trying PINPOINT golf app tomorrow......you get  GPS along with easy to access SG and comparisons to whomever you'd like from a tour pro to 20hdcp ..... thing I like is you can add your round up after playing if you get distracted and can remember points of shots . 55/yr for total access but most features are free.

  • 2 weeks later...

Have used the Shotscope H4 and the Arccos with an Apple Watch.  Winner hands down with performance is the Arccos with the Apple Watch.  Hardly every misses anything (minus putting, but I side saddle so that could have some impact on it picking up putts, but it shows me with more 3-4 putts than 1 putts).  The Shotscope has its advantages for sure (its $150 all in with the GPS and the sensors are soooo much smaller), but I prefer the Arccos just because it picks things up so easily.

The Arccos is more "set it and forget it" while the  Shotscope you have to remember to tap every time and its less intuitive than the Arccos system, but Arccos is absolutely more expensive for essentially the same product.  Basically paying for convivence.

Did you try Pinpoint?  What did you think of it?

Very easy to use AFTER the round for me rather than during for strokes gained purposes.....the only drawback is lacking club selection per shot.....I still use GOLFPAD simultaneously to keep club stats and straightforward fwys, greens and putts .  30 per yr for GOLF PAD ; PINPOINT is 55 per yr ....

Still grasping SG and all of the details
