Fujikura Travil iron shafts

I am curious as well.  I ran across these on golfshaftsamerica.com in my never ending search for a graphite iron shaft that I like.  I called Fujikura and the guy I spoke with didn't know anything about them other than they are Japan only.  Based upon Google translate of Fujikura Japan website, I am guessing they are higher launching than Axiom.  Specs also list slightly higher torque.  It's nice to see a variety of weight options and .355 taper.  I am very interested and will probably buy a 7 iron shaft for testing.

Have you bought from them before? This seems too good to be true. I know all Fujikura shafts in Japan are sold as reshaft only online.

Yes they are legit. They have a Japan website too, so maybe that’s why they are selling them.

i currently use them. I believe Fujikura TRVL has bit of rubber added to somewhere in the process. As a result, I have notice the impact shock has been so much better than other graphite iron shafts.

I highly recommend for players who are struggling from Arthritis and/or tennis elbow.

Feels GOOD~~~~ I like them so much that I put it in my PXG 0311 and Paradym irons~~

I couldn't help myself.  I have ordered a 105 S 7 iron shaft for testing.  I am looking for something a bit heavier than what I am playing now that doesn't feel boardy.  I shall see if this is the unicorn I have been searching for.

Has anyone heard of these new shafts? Any experience with them?

According to the info, it’s a very high launching peak height shaft to give you extra spin and extra steep landing angles for people who need help getting the ball up in the air and making it stop well upon landing.

This evening i put it side by side with the Axiom and the MMT UT.

The Axiom and TRAVIL, of same weight and flex appeared pretty similar.

From the few shots i captured with the Garmin R10, they carried the same distance, the Axiom rolled out further.

Max Tot      Min Tot    Avg Tot   Avg Carry

TRAVIL        119              97            108         106

AXIOM        119              102           112          105

I used a 48* identical head (RC SG-10 wedge) for both and played half shots with 'floating' range balls.

My best shots:

TRAVIL:

78 clubhead 21.8 launch  10k spin   24 apex  110carry 113 total

86 clubhead 22.9 launch 10k1 spin  29 apex 114carry 116 total

AXIOM:

80 clubhead 23.3 launch  9.7k spin  26 apex 109 carry 112 total

86 clubhead 24.4 launch  9k5  spin  29 apex 114 carry 117 total

These 2 shots from each are somewhat comparable (with a pinch of salt, amateur test)

I feel they carry similar under same clubhead speed.

The TRAVIL might stop quicker ? and appears to give more spin.

The interesting thing is that the apex is apparently "the same". i also confirm by visual flight, they look identical in flight.

The TRAVIL launches lower, with more spin, reaching a similar apex, carrying the same distance, with more stopping power........is my current summary based on ~25 shots with each at a freezing cold, stone cold mat range with floaty balls.

When i first suggested TRAVIL to my friend, he immediately said "too high for you". However, i don't feel there is much difference between the 2 and is perhaps purely marketting.

It appears the travil is also just 1 shaft fit, with 2.0 torque in the upper end of 125 X. While the AXIOM is heavier, with lower torque, i don't see much difference in the dispersion between the two on my results.

If anything, the AXIOM is less repeatable in distance, as they are both the same in L/R.

The MMT UT was 105 TX and with a different brand 48* head. it's waaaay lower flight. It was 6*c and this was my warm up.

Max Tot      Min Tot    Avg Tot   Avg Carry

MMT UT       109              81            100         92

Take it as you will, i'm not a great golfer and only using an R10, which i have my douts about at the best of times...

I think i'm going to pull the trigger on the TRAVILs due to their availability (i'm living in Japan) and their simplicity w.r.t the specs choice, as they seem to be a single shaft profile.

Did you ever test the Travil 105 S? Would be interested to hear your feedback, i.e. compared to the 80 MMT (stout/not stout).

not sure how the weight and flex may differ, however, i found the MMT to be quite stout, rebar(ish) and very low flighted.

The TRAVIL, in comparison is "floppy" and more whippy. I would say they are feeling like a flex softer than they are rated, i'm assuming due to their tip and mid profile being softer.

AXIOM are also still quite "soft" vs their flex to my feeling, however, i've been playing c-tapers and steelfibers for a while and perhaps not used to graphite feel.

AXIOM and TRAVIL appeared very similar in performance, however, the marketing on TRAVIL is quite accurate to their claims as far as i experienced so far.

my opinion on feel

MMT are stiff

Axiom maybe half flex softer than rated

TRAVIL feel a whole flex softer than rated.

I'm about to build a set of TRAVIL and hard step them by a half inch. Not sure how it will affect the claims  and match up for the landing angle. Let's see...

Yes I did. I would say Travis feels softer, like you can feel the shaft flexing into impact. MMT feels more one piece.

I just got these Travil 105x in a new set of Bridgestone 222 CB+. I really do like them, but I'm not sure I will move away from Miura long term. They are great when I am aggressive on attack, but don't load as well for me if I rush transition. This is probably a ME issue, not the shaft, but getting mixed results. Pure strikes are as good as anything I have played, with awesome trajectory and steep decent.

Stiff flex play soft to me, Xstiff are more S+ IMO. I also play the MCI 100s in a set of Epons and they work well with a smooth transition and tempered attack. The Travil require me to be easy during transition, but then attack my downswing.  Dispersion circle on Travil was very tight. They do hold up well to attacking the ball!

My hands are telling me I need to switch to graphite (age/joints) but haven't found the feel of good steel yet. Need more testing for now.

Played my first 2 rounds in Japan with my set. First green super hard rock solid and last week was more friendly on the greens.

I was able to stop the ball within 1-2 feet of the pitch mark and got a lot of comments on my "super spin". Stuck an approach to 2 feet for birdie. My shots are going very straight on wedges and irons.

Many factors of course but the high launch and good stopping power were visible on the course.

I can only guess they are looking for some small profit. 100% positive rating from 23 sales, currently seeling a golden banana and no golf history. Based in Japan, would seem legit for the prodcut, just a weird back story / sales history.

I use the Japanese sales site, where you can negociate 10k per shaft (new). This sale is almost domestic pricing. around 65 USD each, right now.

A pulled set used for a few hits or a demo are around 9k yen per shaft, or you can sometimes haggle a little bit.
