Why Is There No LST 5-Wood

It feels like a lot of better players these days go straight from driver to a 4/5 wood. However, PING continues to offer its LST fairway only in a 14.5*loft. Just curious what the rationale is for that. Too niche? The LST/Max differences matter less with higher lofts? Something else? Thanks!

Maybe it isn't possible to make a high-lofted fairway club that qualifies as low spin?

Low spin 5 wood kinda defeats the purpose no?  How many people are trying to hit a 5w for distance and not accuracy / green holding?

Why would anyone use a low spin 5 wood? Defeats the object of a club that is easier to launch. Add in the fact the market for a £470 5 wood is negligible.

Thanks. A smaller, more open and fade-biased 5 wood head that spins an appropriate amount is more what I’m thinking. Most other manufacturers don’t have just a single loft in their “players fairway” line, but rather multiple loft options. But maybe your thinking is why PING doesn’t.

Now the 3ti lst can open to 17 and it's nicely fade bias ....BUT expensive yet very much worth it.....added distance AND consistency as I haven't hit 3 metal in years..... now I'm being more aggressive on par 5s

A 14.5* LST is made for players with high clubhead speed, and a desire for extra reach with a FW.

 

The MAX fairway woods offer the golfer hosel adjustments for either neutral or flat lies.  This would allow settings that would mitigate against hooks for stronger players. And the MAX has 3W, 5W and 7W heads.

 

Match the 3W LST with a MAX 5W / 18* and a robust shaft, and a stronger player should be good to go.
