Cobra 2024

What's everyone's thoughts on the woods?  I went and hit the 3 wood yesterday and was really disappointed with what I could get out of it.  I tried the LS model as well as the X.  With my swing speed right around 97-102MPH I was only able to get about 200-210 yards of carry.  What's odd is with my current Epic Heavenwood I can get a carry of 220-230 yards so I can't for the life of me figure out why this club is not getting more distance.  This was off the mat as they didn't have any shorter tees so that could be one potential reason but still; only getting 200 off a well struck 3 wood is strange.

The LS fairway is pretty sensitive to shafts in my limited experience.

I’ve tuned mine with my preferred fairway shaft, and swapped one of the 15s to the back and the 3 to the heel, and it’s made a world of difference.

Very tunable club, but requires the time to do the fine tuning for sure. I wasn’t getting nearly as much performance in the stock configuration.

Has anyone that played Aerojet fairway woods hit the new ones and noticed any performance difference throughout the lineup?

I played the standard aerojet 3w most of last year and it was really good...just launched really low.

I put my shaft in the new fairways and was majorly disappointed.

The X spins a ton. I see 2800-3200 with aerojet. I was seeing 4000+ with darkspeed.

I tried the ls but didn't have enough headweight to get reasonable numbers from it.

Thanks, bummer to hear I like the look of these but maybe a used Aerojet will be the way to go.

Out of curiosity did you hit your 3 wood at the same time or is 220-230 just what you normally get?

Hit the LS 3w paired with Linq Blue 7F5 against my Stealth 2+ 16.5° and, well, it’s going to be hard for me not to buy. Lofted up 1 notch and was seeing slightly better ball speeds and carry distances, which makes sense, but it really shined on mishits. All would’ve been playable whereas S2+ spun up more and missed miles right. Spin was just over 3k and peak height at 120 feet. I will say that the Linq Blue felt awesome.

What kind of carry/total distance were you getting out of curiosity and with what swing speed?

Fair question - I don't use my 3 wood; I was referring to my heavenwood... I did NOT have it on me but have used it on Trackman multiple times for bag mapping and always fall in the range of 220-230 and 210-220 on off-center hits.  So for my heavenwood to get more distance than a 3 wood I find odd/concerning.. Loft on heavenwood is 20 deg and the 3 wood LS is 14.5 deg for reference.  Even on my center-most shots with the 3 I couldn't clear 205-210 carry...

Not sure what my SS was since the face wasn’t dotted up, but in the past I’ve been between 100-104 mph with a 3/4 wood.
Including all swing data I averaged 243 carry / 260 total and there were some pretty atrocious swings in there. On good swings carry was 250-255 with 270+ total.

Wow that's amazing - Maybe the stock shaft didn't compliment my swing type...  Now I'm curious to go and try it again and experiment with shafts!

Tried the irons today, I wasn't bombing them quite like some have been able to, but they do actually feel really nice for a GI iron.

Doesn't surprise me. I had the s2+ 16.5 and found it to be slow.  And mishits were as you noted, punished. I moved on from it quickly.

What are you currently gaming and how did the distance compare?

P790s, and I was probably 10 yards or so longer.

I'm basically swinging with a drill at the moment though (not the power tool lol), so no flow to my swing.

Think it was KBS c taper 105g shaft too, not a 120g like the tours I'm playing.

Someone mentioned the finish, apparently not many people have hit the demo head I tried yet, but it didn't look bad to me.

See how it looks in a few weeks or so I suppose.

I don’t know the difference between the stock Lin-Q blue and the TSPX aftermarket blue; the latter being my preferred fairway shaft.  That shaft in the LS with a 15 in the back and a 3 in the heel is feeling and performing pretty good for me.

I came from 2+, which I just couldn’t dial.  I’ll have to give the Qi tour a smack, but the Cobra will be tough to beat.

Well it’s ordered. DarkSpeed LS 8* just went with stock linq white X but plan on throwing my current shaft Fuji Evo IV in it. Sold my Aerojet LS head and it’s $220 difference for the upgrade. I figure I can always switch into the 9* if needed but had to see what the 8* is all about.

I have used the white before and it fit me pretty well. Last year I put a 5x Fuji Evo IV in my Aerojet ls and it was just a perfect fit for me. I had a fantastic year driving the golf ball last year. I’ve always been a good driver of the ball but I picked up a few mph and dispersion was great after switching to that shaft so I’m hoping it transfers to the new one.

Hahah.. just got back to my phone.

I was hitting the 5 wood and it just goes. Proper fitting and cranked down to 16 degrees and I could play this as my only wood. Would clear a spot for something else.

but, these are the first cobra fairway woods in a while that I think can hang or potentially beat everything else..
