North Berwick vs Gullane

Not to play (going to play both), but to stay.  Having lodging options in both, would anyone recommend one over the other?

North Berwick is the nicer town in no small part to the beach one block from the high st. But Gullane has charm as well. I think I prefer the restaurants in Gullane, but that generally isn’t a high priority for me.

I like North Berwick. Its quaint, has beach views, good restaurants, an ancient cemetery...

Thanks!  I went with North Berwick as the AirBnb was a little nicer.

Hmmm. depends if you want a bigger town or not.

 

My friend has a lovely 8 bed apartment overlooking the first tee at Gullane; I would stay there. If you have a car you could just drive for dinner or walks etc.

Is that UK Golf Guy?

 

The Puffin in North Berwick is good for dinner. 
 

I think it’s worth the trip to Gullane for dinner at the Old Clubhouse.

never eaten at the Puffin but the Old Clubhouse was great food for the price.

You've decided so not much on the lodging except to say we had an upper floor flat overlooking the sea via AirBnB in North Berwick and it was absolutely amazing.  Walked down the road along the shore the first evening to go play the Glen!  Fun town to walk around, took the train into Edinburgh on a Sunday, taxi to the castle and so forth.  

 

Cucina Amore in North Berwick was hands down the best restaurant we had the pleasure of dining at during our second trip to Scotland, and we at in some great places around Troon and North Berwick - looks like it is still going strong.  Family run, welcoming, fun, great service and . . . . the food was incredible.  After our first meal we ended up going back two more times to try more things and because we enjoyed the family so much.  

 

Buttercup Cafe is great in the morning.  If the place that sells fresh lobster/chips and a freezing can of Coke is still doing it down by the sea spend the money - it is fantastic!

Thanks!  It kind of got decided for me as the AirBnB I originally booked in North Berwick fell through due to permitting issues and the next best option was in Gullane.  I’ll be sure to spend time in both towns though.  
 

Thanks for the restaurants tips!  Lobster looks amazing.

That's too bad, but for us almost every town we saw in our trips seemed to have something to offer so should be great.
