FootJoy Pro SL?

Recommended Posts

It looks like FootJoy is closing out their Pro SL shoes and I'm considering a pair.  For those of you that have worn the Pro SL's how have you liked them?  I don't do a lot of walking but I'd still want something that's plenty comfortable in case I do want to walk a round or two.

Also, which model do you prefer - the regular Pro SL, Pro SL Sport, or Pro SL Carbon?

I use to wear the Pro SL's exclusively from 2019-2021, had both the regular and the Carbon. I found the Carbon to be much more comfortable than the standard SL and I usually walk 80% of my casual/non tournament rounds. Still have a pair of the Carbon's lying around but again haven't worn them since I switched over to the Gfore MG4+. I did eventually find that I had to wear a wide in FJ for them to feel better.

As far as length goes, did you find them pretty true to size?

Yes! I wear an 11 in pretty much every shoe and the SL's were no different, again I just had to go wide for a better fit, it helped eliminate a little bit of heel rubbing in the standard model that I experienced.

Pro SLs are great. I preferred the Carbon since I like a more stable, stiffer platform. Only issue I ever had with them was that the toe box is narrow and could pinch your pinkie toes. Great grip, a comfortable though.

I'm not a fan of pro SL's, personally (standard model). I always experienced pretty significant heel rubbing. Much prefer the premiers.

Pro sl have been my FJ shoes of choice for the last 5 years. I have had a new pair every time they have had an update including the pro sl sport.

I have found them relatively comfortable, waterproof and never had a problem with slipping due to the lack of spikes.

I do agree with other posters that they are quite narrow in the toe box, which is why I get the wide version.

I wear the Pro SL (non-carbon) almost exclusively. I find them to be incredibly comfortable and as stable as I could ever need. They are my go to shoe, and if I playing in anything that matters I am wearing a pair of Pro SL’s.

I don’t know that the line is being discontinued, but I think they are making some pretty big changes to them. If they are indeed dropping them that would be pretty surprising. I think I remember reading that the Pro SL as a model would be the second largest golf shoe brand if it were its own entity. That model is basically bigger than Ecco or whoever’s entire lineup.

My 2 cents, they are a great shoe. I’m buying a few extra pairs to have so I can hold out as long as possible!

I only had the 1st generation ProSL, but same as others: 1/2" small and W worked for me. I was standard sizing on the FJ Stratos, which were more comfortable. They are discontinuing those this year as well.

IMO the stratos were a little ugly but probably the comfiest FJ shoes I have tried.

Yeah I got them for the comfort, but thought they looked better than ProSL. Going back to cleats this year though.

Nice. I didn't see these at so assumed they discontinued. Looks like they combined the stratos and ProSL, haha.

when I say ugly, they were just wider than the pro sl, just didn't suit my eyes but extremely comfortable.

Im sure you could get away with going TTS (true to size) but the difference for ME between Nike and FJ is that the FJ toebox is longer.  If you dont mind some extra length and a narrow(er) toe box then go TTS.  When I went down a half size, the length of the shoe was perfect but then the toe box felt very narrow, which led me to go wide in width for the perfect fit both length and width wise.

Agree with this.  I prefer the Carbons to the regular SL (I've played with both) for more support and stability.
