Epoxy Scotty Cameron 1995 Catalina

I noticed epoxy and asked the seller..Below is the sellers response 

 

has anyone else ever seen this?

 

Yes original owner. No haven’t altered but you can see epoxy creeping up.

Epoxy doesnt melt.

 

If you dont like it have the shaft pulled, clean that up, and re-epoxy it on cleanly and enjoy.

Clearly not telling you the truth about not altering it.  Epoxy doesn't magically do that after the fact.  Someone (seller) has done some work on this.  You've got to wonder if this is the original shaft?   Hope you are getting this at a very good price.

Great price, I still have my old Catalina I bought in 96 pretty much pristine. I've been offered a lot more than that.

Thanks. He says it has not been altered but that epoxy looks weird

I’d bet good money there’s a nasty surprise under there. 
 

Did these have a stub or does the shaft go down into the head?

It's definitely been pulled and put back together again very sloppily and like @BYK said might be something bad under that shaft.

Shaft goes into the head. 

Not sure, but could be a proprietary shaft for these Scotty's.  Like someone tried to get a different shaft in the head.

My concern would be if they're the original owner why they don't know what happened to the glue, surely they'd know if it was re-shafted? unless it was stored next to an active volcano the epoxy isn't going to melt unless you torch it.

 

If it was in you possession I'd ask if you can pull the shaft and check the head, and return it if there's any nasty surprises.
