Taylormade 770's vs PXG "T" Irons

Anyone tried both? I demod 770's and thought the ball flight was too high, and the wedges were surprisingly short. Feel was more or less non-existent. Didn't see why anyone would play them over TM 790's. 

 

Im used PXG Gen 3,4&5 P's, but never Ts from those Gens. Anyone who has do they retain most of the feel of the Ps? How is ball flight? Distance? Wedges?

 

Asking because I'm thinking of switches but I don't want to if they're too similar to P770s.

The Gen5 T's feel way better than the 770's IMO. I think the reason the PW in the 770 is like 46* and your PW is probably more 43 or 44 ish, just speculating.

Good thread and following. I have Gen5 P’s and been demoing the 770’s. I just don’t get it. I love the look at address of them for sure. I want something smaller than the P, but the 770 feels so dead. It’s an ok iron, but the ‘23 790 feels way better. I  am Thinking about going to the T’s myself. 
 

Maybe someone else can chime in.

No I mean the actual distance gapping in the same set between the mid and long irons vs short irons.

I have played the Gen 4 0311T irons and now have have the new 0317T irons and I can say after trying and testing the TM770 irons the PXG categorically feel way better than the TM770 or TM790 irons. The distance is relative similar to other brands in loft for loft and distance. The GW are great in the pxg irons and would not suggest they are longer or shorter than others. 

Personally the PXG product in the goo filled iron market is superior in feel and performance than any other brand I have tried. If you like the feel of the 0311P irons then the T model will not disappoint.

Tried the 770's in the fitting bay and I had Mizuno Pro 223's in the bag.  Then went to PXG and fit into the 0317t's with steelfiber i95s.   Will not go back,  best part, the feel was much better with the PXG and they were more forgiving.  I won't go back, these are just a good fit for me.  But, like everyone say's go try things out, what works for one may not for another.

I’m currently in the 0317Ts since release time in the fall. I previously gamed the T100S for 2 years prior. Leading up to this past summer/fall, I wasn’t really looking for anything to replace them, but tried and fitted into some out of curiosity. I really loved the look of both the 770s and 790s and thought about doing a combo since they looked like they seamlessly blended together. My overall takeaway was disappointing in feel and performance in both, especially 770s. They just felt a bit harsh and dropping off in distance severely to the point I wasn’t sure if I was hitting the middle/sweet spot. Club data on trackman said I was, but I didn’t get that ‘forged’ feel like I did on my T100S. So was a hard pass for me especially at premium price point.

 

I then went to PXG on a whim to try out the 0311 Gen6 line and was fitted into the 0311Ps and purchased since prices were down and even moreso with my heroes discount. Overall I enjoyed them and felt light years better than the TM offerings while retaining my ideal distance and ball flight. However, I felt dispersion was just a bit too wide after playing for a couple months. When the 0317Ts were released, I went back to try and got fitted and purchased m. Since then (last fall), they have been a permanent fixture in my bag and I haven’t looked back since nor have any desires to try anything else. Perfect IMO of looks, feel, performance (ideal height, dispersion, and distance). TBH T100s feel a bit softer but very marginal. 0317Ts are definitely a bit more forgiving and inspire a bit more confidence to my eye while still having a fairly thin line and compact look at address. It’s basically the baby bear/unicorn for my swing and preference I look for in an iron. Will be staying safely in the bag through 2024 season at the very least.

Another thumbs up for the forgiveness factor. Played 2019 T100-S for 3 years, fought a 10-15 yd hook consistently. Traded out for gen4 0311P (4-6) 0311T (7-9), hook gone. Still workable and every shot feels juiced up. Love em.

Just ditched the p770’s, got fit for 5 & 6 iron 1° weak gen 6 p’s and 0317t 7-p 1° strong. 0317t way more consistent for me than p770. P770’s go left for me. 0317’s more consistent in every aspect for me. . The gen 6p’s are very easy to hit.. gapping worked out great for me.  Good luck!

Try the 0317 CBs.  I hated the 0317 Ts, but the CBs are an all-time iron.

Spent time on the monitor today. Hate the 770’s. LOVED the new Pro 245. 790’s go crazy far! ZX-7 were really nice. In the end my Gen5 P’s kept up and performed very well and felt the absolute best. 770’s, no way.

What about the PXG "ST" versión? I haven't tried those either but maybe it's just that a weaker lofted smallish head like a TM 770 or PXG T just doesn't work with being hollow and foam filled.
