Qi10 backweights

Recommended Posts

Just got my new all blacked out QI 10. I just ordered it with the stock hazardous black 6.5 shaft and half inch short so playing length of 45 1/4. It has the heaviest weight that TaylorMade has to offer installed. Looking  if there any aftermarket ones out yet Because the driver swing weights at D2.5 and I’m looking to have it at D3.5-D4.   FYI I did a google search but only found the round weights from the heel side.

edit- my TS3 with the same shaft and grip is D4.2  but the head is 2 grams heavier so I don’t need much more weight for the Qi10

Round weights are for swingweight purpose. The come in 1-2-4-6-8-9-11-13g. If you build your exact setup on the custom page, it will tell you what round weight it should have come with.

Ok yeah it did say it would come with the heaviest weight they offer when I did the custom build. Mine is 13g.  Looking to see if there are heavier back weights available though.   Looks like it’s just a tour truck option at this point.

Take the back plate off and use some lead tape in there. That plate is Tour Van only.

Stupid question time: I can unscrew the weight at the back of my core Qi10 but the silver plastic piece does not come off - is it supposed to?

It's epoxied in...I used a torch for 10-15 secs and it came off with a little screw driver to pry it off.  Mine was 19gr plus 2gr for the screw.  I'm looking for a heavier back weight.

For what it’s worth. With some small nicely added lead tape. You can take off the stock rear weight and add a few grams under the stock weight. There is enough room to get to 24 grams. But probably not 26. (That’s the heaviest weight I have seen available)

I went up 2 grams to 23 and you can’t see it under the weight.

I hotmelted 3 grams neutral to the front to balance out and get to weight I am looking for. 200 grams. I still have 4 grams I can play with or go with lighter weights if I need more weight up front.

I’m hoping to go lighter, probably by about 5g in the head. I bought an 8g rear weight from shaftconnect but turns out the Qi10 and Qi10 LS rear weights are slightly different, so it didn’t fit. I’ve seen a few that are advertised as fitting the Qi10 LS on eBay but they look a bit suspect.

Yeah rear weights between Qi10 core and LS are totally different. The LS uses round weights like the OG stealth plus. In fact if you have an OG stealth plus you can use those round weights in the LS back weight or the core head front weight.

The round weight I have is 2g which I think is the lowest weight, unfortunately. Gonna have to get a lighter silver weight in order to bring the weight down.

Please let me know if you find one. My LS is coming up about 7g too heavy and that’s with the lightest 2g round weight in.

I’m surprised that the weight that they change is the round one near the hosel. Being positioned where it is would influence shot shape no?

This is a great point. Unless there was a ton of hot melt already in the toe of the head. I wonder what would happen if you dropped 14 grams from the rear weight and moved it to the front of the face towards the toe. Then added a light weight in the round front near the hosel…

I think you would find it drop in spin and forgiveness dramatically. Probably altering too much the characteristics of the head, losing too much stability. Maybe I am off but I notice even small changes in weighting 5-8g to significantly impact head characteristics. Sure loft and lie even more so, but weighting will influence spin, contact point, and especially feel which then corresponds to impact locations and thus launch and spin.

Some thing to keep in mind is that faders often prefer weighting to be hosel side, because they ever so slightly favor a heal strike to help produce the fade and want weight there to help ball speed and stability.

right now I am playing Qi10 core 9.0 two clicks down. I added 3.5 grams hot melt in forward slight toe side, then added 2 grams in the back to get to 201 grams total head weight. Stock heal weight which I believe is around 8 grams. Though I have messed with having a 12 gram weight in the heal weight. I didn’t notice much change from n spin and maybe slightly easier to draw the ball.

in current setup, fades almost all day at 2200-2700 spin. (And I am a draw player) Draws are low spin at 1700-1900 (too low) which is worrying me. I am having a hard time turning it over. But hey I don’t mind fades either. Tried for years to play a reliable fade.

I do play a tipped Diamana D+ TX and driver is 44.75 in length.

I would say those looking at Qi10, I highly recommend the head. But will take some time to dial weighting. And if too much spin, go down in loft and think about lower spin shafts or tipping.

Yeah my main goal is to mimic the dot version 2 head which i believe is lower spin and less forgiveness. I’m currently playing mine in the full lower position at 7 degrees. Would rather change the cg completely than have to play at 7 deg

Gotcha. Same here. I love the speed and forgiveness of the Qi10. Just working on spin and consistency now.

right now I have the 3.5 grams of hotmelt forward. If spin is still too high after playing on course then I will go down to 18 grams in back weight and put more weight up front in either hosel or lead tape to test. Then if that is the best setup will add more hotmelt forward toe side.

basically same as you. Building a dot head. My Qi10 is fast. Faster than the LS I tested with.

I just realized the torque wrench doesn't fit the weights, does taylormade make a wrench that fits the circular weights?

You don’t need a TM specific wrench.  The appropriate sized bit will do
