Could this long drive coverage get any worse?

Don't know if I'm watching a repeat or not, but constant head-pounding music, incessant talking by the announcers, and they are showing almost none of the balls when they hit the grid.  Is a high school student directing this production?

Well coincidentally they started to show the balls landing.  Guess they can't do much about the crappy sound of the music.

I watched for about 15 minutes.  An observation - they get their hands very high in the backswing, and the driver goes WAY WAY past parallel.  The ladies swings were easier to relate to.

 

(Note to self: try getting your hands higher, like you used to 45 years ago!)

Only thing “good” about this thread is it’s kinda refreshing to see complaining about long drive coverage as opposed to PGAT coverage. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Just looked it up on youtube. I'm no prude and listen to music sometimes on the course but this music is just terrible terrible. I'm sure the long drive guys hate it but what can they do...its a struggling sport as is.

What they should do with the long drive competition is put a relatively flat smooth area with a hole in its center within say 150 yards of the landing area and require the contestants to try to get their balls in that hole.  It would be more interesting and more of a challenge of course if the distance were considerably more than 150 yards, and less so if the distance were less.

TXG's driver bracket series is more entertaining than professional long drive. The format that combines both distance and accuracy (off-line) makes more sense to me than just praying 1 of 6 shots lands within a 50yd fairway.

Bad music, bad announcing, and not showing shots… sounds like the worst of LIV and the PGA Tour rolled into 1.

I doubt I'll be watching any more.  I used to find it interesting, but they've gone through so many format changes you never know what to expect.  I much preferred when they got like a minute to whack as many balls as they could.  No idea why it was changed.

I‘ve been to the German Long Drive twice, I work for the German equivalent of the USGA. Our marketing company does these . It’s super boring to watch, you don’t see balls land, most of the guys spray it around like fire hoses, stupid music, and not too many people watching. If they don’t put up a show it’s just tattooed bodybuilders hammering golf balls around. If they do light show and obnoxious music it’s a juvenile circus. With tattooed bodybuilders hammering golf balls around. It’s just too much One Trick Pony to be interesting.

If I recall they also had a bunker that was in play in the landing area, in a previous competition the landing area was full of big mounds and the roll out was dependent on how lucky you were if you hit a mound on the up or down slope. These guys are doing really good if hit a 60 yard wide landing zone 25% of the time. Just find a flat strip of land and get rid of the gimmicks.

I get long drive, I don't dislike it just, just the equivalent to me of who can throw a football the farthest...somewhat game adjacent.
