My instructor gave me that exact thing Bryson is doing as a drill. It did not resonate with me and we've since moved on to other feels, but it's obviously valid and I'm sure Monte loves it as it doesn't look that far off the 8'clock cast.

I honestly can't fathom what's going through somebody's head when they use someone like Niemann as a model.

 

I understand the age old debate about whether you try to change someone like that if they pitch up on your lesson tee as an elite golfer swinging like that, but to teach that is dumber than 5 bags of rocks IMO.

I taught that out of a freshman 2 years ago and he’s headed to a high D1 and his parents thanked me as he’s 6-5 and his friend with a similar swing might need back surgery.  If he came to me as a 23 year old rookie pga tour player.  Unlikely I would change it.  I’d say win until it hurts and then change it, ala Zalatoris.

Yeah, all I see is:

 

1. The list of greatest major champions, HOF and current Top 10 / 20 / whatever ranked players is dominated by people who are not mega side-bent/rotated. Until I see some serious WR domination and major championship tears by the other crowd, I think the evidence suggests that there is no advantage to swinging like that (other than it looks kind of athletic and cool in a "look at me, I can swing like a df and still hit the ball amazingly" kind of way) and it's possibly a disadvantage.

 

2. Longevity is a problem. I can't think of a 50 year old tour pro who does that and they have all day to work on their swings and bodies, so what chance does a middle-aged desk jockey or older person have of pulling it off?

 

3. Increased chance of rather serious injury.

I was going to ask on Bryson's ig that very question but decided it was not my place. Dana does teach multiple patterns and he's most likely just a sounding board for BD.

Dana has multiple posts of Bryson so it's safe to say he's probably his swing coach for the time being.

How many people in the entire world even have enough T-spine mobility to pull off an impact position like that.  Crazy to even suggest attempting something like that.  The truth almost always lies in the middle.

When did Bryson move away from the single plane swing? I guess I haven’t watched him play much in awhile.

Unless I'm looking at the wrong video, isn't he just saying drop the hands to the right pocket? Where does Niemann come into it? Bryson's impact position doesn't look that extreme? I realise BD wasn't going full speed.
