Mixing iron brands for your mixed set? Anyone do it? Am I weird

So I currently play Miura Tc-201 P-5, and a JPX 921 Forged 4 iron, all with MMT 105TX. Love them and its a true lifer set for me (ha, yea right...but honestly it is).

The problem for me comes down at the gap wedge end, I am in the strange camp that really likes an 'iron' gap wedge, which unfortunately isnt an option for the TC-201's. So here is the question, I am debating adding a JPX 923 Tour Gap wedge to book-end my set, partially because the MMT is a no upcharge (130$ extra in CND otherwise), partially because its sexy and I think would blend well with the TC's.

I play my gap wedge as a full club, I'll hit 3/4 shots and some chips but I want it to match my iron set and I treat my 56/60 as true wedges and use S400's there.

Anyways I think there is ironically some continuity having two JPX clubs in the bag, but getting a gut check to see if I'm getting a bit eclectic with my set lol.

If it works it works, you could have someone with a similar bag and go to a Vokey gap wedge as an example but if you want an iron like gap wedge the Mizuno should work. The TC-201 and 923 Tour PW have the same loft so if you need to bend wouldn't be much if anything.

I don't think it's weird... my irons go like this:

60/56 - Nike VR pro

51 (gap) - Cleveland REG588

p-5 - Mizuno MP69 (or Nike VR TW or Wilson Staff CB)

4i - Mizuno MP18 SC Fli Hi

If it's windy I'll throw in a 3i MP18SC Fli Hi.

Given the number of tournaments Bernhard Langer won with Hogans for the long irons and Adams for the short irons, I think he'd tell you it is ok to mix irons.

It’s fine. Blending brands, blending sets- whatever works for you. If anything, it shows you know your game and you’ve fine tuned your equipment to match.
The 923 Gap is a great wedge. I have one.

ive seen Lehman use like 7 different models for his irons, the was a bit weird

*2011 bag, His 2019 bag had only 5 different models

8 - Tour Preferred

alright I'm sold, it doesnt hurt that it saves $100 off the wedge and I imagine it will last longer, more like an iron lifespan vs the wedge replace it every season or two mentality?

I have Nike Vapor fly pro 3 & 4 irons and Ping eye 2 plus from 5 iron to sand wedge.

It does bother me a bit that I am mixing brands , ideally I’d like to play the Eye 2’s from 1 to SW(which would match the Vapor fly lofts). Just haven’t found the right shaft for the Eye 2 3 iron yet.

Check out Zac Blairs bag! Titleist U510 3 iron, Ping i210 4-6 and Miura 9-7...with some Vokey wedges.

Not a problem at all. I played a mix of 2021 Wilson Staff CB irons and 2018 Apex MB irons for a season and a half. The Wilson CB irons were a better match than any Callaway CB. Play what works for you.
