Looking for a quiet driver!! Please help!

Driver noise

Ok this sounds a bit weird but much as I love my Hibore XL driver in terms of performance- easy, straight and long- I can't stand the loud, metallic noise it makes.

Does anyone know of a driver as easy and beautiful (but that's just my opinion) that makes less noise-or at least a nicer one!

FT-3. Hands down. Solid - like a wooden baseball bat, and similar feel. Long. Not the most forgiving, but a great, great driver. VS Proto shaft is a great combo if you can find it.

My Rapture is really quiet and EXTREMELY solid feeling.

I can tell you one that doesn't have a good sound... the FT-i in my bag.... wow the noise is so loud.... BUT i really love the driver.

 

I concur with the MP600 - like the looks and sound - really long for me as well.

If you want to go old school either a 905s or 983e, but neither one offers much in terms of forgiveness relative to a Hibore XL. MP 600 was quiet when I hit it as well.

OK, maybe not your HiBore but it will surely help. provided you can get the swingweight you want.

If you have a good club guy just get him to put a shot of hotmelt in it. It changes to a nice solid sound.

I second that. Find what you like, then make it quiet. Hot melted or foamed and you are good to go. just make sure you have someone qualified do it.

Callaway FT3, nice and quiet and just bombs it

Crown and sole are the place to put hot melt to quite down the sound, however It will take about 2-3 swing weight point at least to make this effective.

 

And the wrong type of hot melt, You'll end up an inconsistent head weight bias and bring back the sound back a bit. In a hot summer car trunk can reach a heat to a point will liquify the hotmelt enough to make it run to what ever the club laid.

I really like my Burner TP. To me it is solid sounding without being loud. As others have indicated, the Pings sound OK too. I can't stand the sound of the Callaways FT-anything. JMO.

Wow, firstly thanks for all the replies, it has been really useful- this is definetely the best golf site around.

 

Anyhow, I've got tomorrow off so I'll be checking out a very long short list at my local fitter. I really like the look of the Mizuno MP600, 905r, D2, j33r but the latter is difficult to get your hands on here in France. Inevitably Ping crops up pretty often too with the Rapture and to a lesser extent the G10.

PS Hotmelting sounds a bit of an art and I don't know the French for it!

another vote for the FT-3 I loved this driver, and it really does sound like a wooden bat. Solid, long, and quiet....shhhhhhhh

J33r 460 without a doubt the best feeling/sounding driver ever. My ft-3 isn't too bad either.

what about High-MOI drivers ? Would you agree the Nike 5900 is the most quiet among them ?

Have to agree with J33R and Rapture. The FT-3 is not loud but I really don't care for it's sound.

Easy solution, get it re-finished.

 

I do find that the Burner is definitely quieter than most drivers.
