Fairway Woods That Are Open?

I have a Titleist 15* TSR3 playing it in open and flat sleeve settings with the weight towards the toe - even with all these adjustments I seem to delivery the face closed at impact.   It seems to sole closed, has anyone else found this to be the case for them?    I was also wondering what fairway woods people are playing that seem open at address?

If you’ve lofted that club all the way down, have it set flat, and have weight in the toe, it’s likely not the club.

Oh, I’m not saying it is.  I know I draw the ball, I hit this club pretty consistently but it’s consistently a bigger miss left than with my other clubs.   I was just looking to see if people have favorite fairway woods that are less left, maybe clubs that sit open at address.

I don’t say that in a bad way at all, I just think going to try hit a few fades to find a middle ground with it might help. That is by no means a drawish fairway wood - maybe even more fade bias than anything. A different shaft could help too. What have you got in there now? 3w is the hardest club to fit well for a reason. Delivery is a bit different to other clubs in the bag given it’s a touch shallower but the shaft is long right? Driver is off a tee and irons are shorter and a bit easier to control. But yeah, check shaft and then try to hit some cuts and find a middle ground

@floycota are you sure you’re delivering with face closed? Unless it’s a pull draw/hook you’re probably getting path too far in/out and I think the open face will cause that. Try closing the face and see if your path neutralizes. Also should know your AOA

I practice on SkyTrack and Foresight systems regularly.   According to both of those systems I'm delivering the face about -2-3* closed to a path that's actually square at impact.  I'm back on one tomorrow, I'll give it a try.

This is sometimes actually due to a setup issue. When your hands get too far back in the longer clubs the head can start to sit more and more shut. It's actually a reminder for me when I start seeing that a little but to check my address position.

Otherwise Taylormade's have the widest adjustable range and you'd *really* have to do something weird to get any of the Plus/Tour models lofted all the way down to look closed.

I think there’s a common misconception that open-face angle automatically equates to less hooks. For some people I think it’s actually the opposite. Maybe I’m wrong about this topic entirely, but I’m pretty sure there’s an old reddit thread about this that goes into the reasoning & basic science behind this for certain people/swings.

As a natural drawer of the golf ball whose miss has always been a hook, I was fit into +1 loft setting on my driver for dispersion purposes and less hooks (it was not for a lack of speed/launch)

I’ve experimented with going -1 loft on the adaptor my left miss got much worse. The shaft plays a role, I’m on standard setting now, but i think too many people just wrongfully assume that de-lofting is going to make them hook less and hit it further

Call the Coach. Check swing, impact, swing path 2 impact, take along your backup club that historically worked eg G20, R11, M2,915, RazrHawk.

When all else fails on a club...reset at Std Settings. Std loft lie face angle.

Not kidding.

Ps whats swing weight? 70% chance too lite.

Cheers.

Not trying to be a jerk, but you’ve done everything you can to prevent the club from the club from closing. It also could be a strike location/low spin issue. Are your strikes more toe side? Remember, the adjustable setting only work if you return the face to the same position it started. If on your delivery you are returning the face closed the setting can’t help. What were you hitting before you went to the TSR3? Did you have the same issue?

I can't think of many clubs that fit in that category, if TSr3 is already too shut for you, but the "Plus" or "Tour" versions of TaylorMade's FWWs sit pretty neutral to open and can be cranked wide open with the loft sleeve. (Which is the opposite of their standard Max versions, which are shut to my eye, especially in the Stealth lines).
