Which modus shaft is closest in relation to an x100??

Recommended Posts

Agree with @Cwebb.  However, one thing I want to add is that the Modus 125X felt just a touch softer overall than the X100.  Maybe a better comparison would be the X100 ss x 1.

A pure academic exercise moment, considering what's happened to the longest irons in sets in recent years...

I've always wondered if that difference would disappear if we used the Modus 125 shafts the way DG shafts are used.  What I mean:

With DG shafts, the 37" shaft is used for both 9i and PW.  With the Modus shafts, the 37" shaft is only used with the PW.

If you hardstep the Modus, do they become roughly equivalent?

Kind of pointless these days, but I admit it's a curiosity.  Maybe in part because I still play sets that include 1 and 2 irons...

As stated the 125x is the closest. The 105/115/125 models were designed to be DG equivalents using the same design. The 120/130 are their more unique/extreme profiles.

The modus 125x feels closest, but I’d argue it performs more like the kbs tour 130x.  For me the 125  has a similar low balance point and  a nice dense feel at impact like x100.   It apex’s higher and flatter than dg and spin a bit less.  I don’t quite get the same ball speed so distance is a little less, particularly in the short irons, but left to right dispersion is great.

if I could’ve play in zero wind all the time I think I would find a set of heads to pair up with this and game them.  Easy to swing, straight, just high and flat for me and knockdowns don’t fly all that much lower.

Tour v 130 in a set of I 230s.  To me they are not as stiff as people make them out to be and smoother than modus 130 and x7.

Ive got a set of Wilson staff mbs on order with c taper 120 s.  I’m trying to get into the 120 grams territory but just haven’t found my way yet.  S taper at 125 will be my next test if the c tapers at 120 don’t work (would have tried them this time but Wilson doesn’t offer any of the s+ flex’s . $ taper 120 was just a touch light and 130 I couldn’t feel the head)

I haven't tested Tour V 130's yet, only the Tour V 120X.  Besides weight, is there any other difference?

The tour v130s don’t have the kick/snap like the 120 and 125 do.  I like them in the short irons but tend to snap hook the 6-4 irons regularly.  They feel nice just don’t quite work.  130s don’t go left, but they do get heavy on the back nine and harder to hit full distance.

125X will be the closest you will get from Modus but it's not as stiff imo.

I went from an X100 to the Modus 125X. It may be considered the closest, but IMO they are very different shafts.

IMO, the people I know who get on well with any Modus shafts are those who release the club earlier in the down swing. For those who release it a bit later in the down swing, it seems to exaggerate this.

I was fitted for the Modus 125X as I wanted a bit more spin. Im back in an X100. The difference for me was considerable.
