I have been using the same putter since 1986 (Macgregor Smoothie) and never used a putter cover on it. Yes it looks battle worn. But, I just switched putters to a Rife putter and I have been using the cover on it. I wonder how long it will last because I find it to be a royal pain in the arse.

Just used some birthday money to order an Iliac Golf "Vintage Stimp" leather cover in black/antique white.

I envision Christmas may bring the matching black/antique white Vintage Pom driver cover and Vintage Tassel fairway and utility covers if only Santa gets the message.

No. I guess my first putters were never good enough to come with headcovers/ they didnt exist that far back!

My current Odyssey came with a cover but I/ my caddy lost it and havent bothered to replace it. The Odyssey finish is pretty durable and doesnt seem to show any wear and tear, plus I have been able to snug it into the bag so it does chatter with anything else.

When did putter headcovers really become mainstream/ the norm?? I seem to recall that we used to consider them with the same derision that many now spare for iron headcovers.

Scotty Cameron covers are the worst putter covers in the world. Everybody I know who has one (and my own) the velcro is crap and after one season is completely useless.

Then the headcover starts falling off.#

I now use a putter cover with magnetic closure

Always!!! Ever since I bought my brand new Odyssey WHT #9 I only take the cover off when I am on the green, then right back on when I am done putting. I also do the same with my driver, wood and hybrids (don't need that stuff getting banged up).

Always! Wipe the sand, water, grass, dirt, chemicals off before putting headcover back on. Use lemon oil on surfaces after play and I cover the sole with PutterTape, preferrably from new to protect sole surface.

recently got my first scotty and I too am disappointed with the velcro on the cover. it doesnt hold itself closed very strong at all and maybe being anal with a 1st scotty i feel like i dont want the rough side rubbing on the putter when i put it on and take it off.
ive been toying with using my odyssey tour black cover because it has a very nice magnetic cover which holds nice and strong and nothing rough of it to scrape.

Got a putterglove on my Nead and a magnetic Odyssey Black series i use on everything else as its a great fit on all anser putters

I use a putter head cover. Unfortunately, it seems to be the main thing left on the course. I had an Odyssey black series for my #9, but lost it somewhere and haven't replaced it, but definitely looking for a new one, maybe a custom job. Any recommendations?

I agree - the magnetic Odyssey covers seem a lot more streamlined because of the way they close. The one I got with my Circa 62 is next to useless (although I was fully aware of it when I bought it). Need to find a shop around my part of Australia (or eBay store) that has non-branded ones.

I'm currently using a black stingray head cover for my Bettinardi putter. Still deciding if the matching goes on that club or a Cameron.

I do, but it's as much to protect my long and mid irons as it is the putter. I don't mind a bit of bag chatter on the backs of the irons, but I don't want chucks knocked out of the hosels thanks to the putter clonking against them.

As far as my bag goes, an old Pro Platinum cover generally does the honours unless I'm bagging a putter that needs oiling - in which case one of a couple of black Art of Putting ones, each with a pre-greased lining, goes on top of the wand.

I don't know what people are doing with their velcro to be knackering it after a year. My regular cover is ten years or more old and whilst the surface of the thing's got a bit of crazing on it and the colour has faded a bit, the velcro on it's still grippier than Grippy Jack McGrippy.

Always use one...especially now.

I had a Ping Doc 12.5 and did not bother putting the head cover back on for about 2-3 rounds (riding a cart). Afterwards, I noticed several spots where the iridium finish was worn off...it looked terrible. This was while using an Ogio bag with the isolated putter well. Never again...I always replace the head cover after every hole.

Also helps to protect graphite shafts.
