Why TIGER throws his club down??

I am a tiger fan but golf is all about etiquette. I am appalled when I watch the best in the world slam/ throw his club when he hit a bad shot. I am sure a knucklehead will repeat the same thing at my CC.

Shouldn't the PGA fine HIM? What's your thought? :russian_roulette:

When you are the best in the world, you can do whatever you want. He isn't doing it for show, he is doing it because he is pissed and does not accept anything except the best. We are different, that's why we are reading this instead of enjoying life with $700M.

a co-worker of mine plugged his putter head into a green yesterday after missing birdy putt for 69. I thought this was very out of line.

 

 

When I see someone cuss or slam a club down, I think it really reflects how intense and serious they are about the game. I cuss a lot, but never throw a club just because I know how much it would cost to replace. I've buried an iron head into the ground a few times tho.

Nobody likes to see that. The public don't, the course owners don't and his sponsors certainly don't want to see him abusing their equipment or even daring to call it's performance into question.

A fine isn't really the answer - his pockets are pretty deep. Real deep.

Maybe he needs a mentor to kick his a$s when he does something stupid like that.

Penalty strokes can be issued for slow play - why not for the equivalent of the tennis "racket abuse"?

Bottom line - he should know better. It's obvious he endures the constant scrutiny of the golfing world - why give them cause to gripe?

because he is a drama queen. it always seems like he over dramatizes everything, from the way he turns away when he gets sand in his eyes from a bunker shot to when he throws clubs. i got my flame suit ready

Let's not get out of pocket here. Since when emotion means throwing clubs? What would Phil Mickelson do after so many heart breaking situations? We all witnessed it. But I never saw the man throw his club. He is not a Zin master.

There is a fine for such on the tour...they take care of it in private and do not release the info on who or how much it cost them... While such (throwing clubs, profanity, etc.) is understandable, the tour says that it is not acceptable. I believe that Bobby Jones and Jack and Arnold have talked about doing such things when they were younger but stopped because it was not in keeping with that which makes golf special game that it is... fair enough. though i have no problem with the occasional emotional outburst, whatever it entails, i'll agree to disagree.

 

but a whole new thread asking WHY TIGER DOES IT? just because he is the best player in the world does not mean he should be held to a higher level of etiquette than everyone else. if you believe he should, then you do not really believe in etiquette at all.

 

if you really care so much about players tossing the occasional club, why dont you start a daily thread listing all the culprits?

I have seen the some of the worst breaches of etiquette imaginable at CCs. My favorite was a CEO with an impeccable pedigree throw

his entire set of clubs into a lake...one by one.

Actually, I believe that Tiger holds the record for being the most fined player in the history of the PGA. Of course this is due to the camera always being on him and him using an expanded vocab...but still.

 

I do get tired of all of the club tossing , the one at Doral with his putter was a little much. It doesn't really bother me enought to lose sleep though.

Personally, I think Tiger Woods shows so much restraint it is ridiculous. Were I in his position, you better believe I'd have a bud at the turn and swear a blue streak up and down when a bogey cost me enough money to buy the OP's house and car.

 

I think both Tiger and Phil are EXTREMELY good role models, no matter how you slice it. Stop trying to make them into robots and enjoy the emotion that comes with sport.

some of you guys really need to get a life or something........there's a damn site worst things going on in the world than tiger dropping or slamming a club..........the guy is an awesome golfer and damands the best from himself, showing some emotion when he gets it wrong is not ANoTHER reason to open a slam tiger thread........
