I have never won anything like this in my life. I am running out of time. For once I would like to use the top of the line golf equipment. It has taken me several years to realize that scoring in golf is in the short game. I still can't get my 2 sons to understand the concept. They are into the latest and greatest drivers. Not me. Roger Cleveland is the man when it comes to wedges. I played the 588 model since I started playing golf 15 years ago and I have played those wedges till there was u in the groves. Since I changed from those wedges a year ago because I couldn't get the TG grinds I had when I was playing college golf and professionally my wedge has drastically gotten worse. This would be a dream come true.

I have only ever played wedges that Roger Cleveland had a hand in - 588s originally and now Callaway X-Tours. Despite being an ardent believer in custom fitting (even with the putter) for some reason the only club I have never been fit for are my wedges. This is a heaven sent opportunity to work with the guru's guru of wedges and, even better, it's as much for the benefit of lefties. I turned round to become a left hander five years years ago and I have this strange notion that winning this competition, and having a set of wedges built just for me, will magically transform my short game and put it on a level with Callaway's resident short-game wizard and number 1 lefty.

Blindly moving from wedge to wedge without much knowledge or fitting advice, I have not only blown lots of hard earned cash but also felt the wrath from my wife who states, "why do you need so many clubs, you just got new ones a few months ago?" If she only knew the sickness we possess when it comes to clubs. As Pelz has showed, accuracy with wedge play is more important to scoring than ball striking or putting. The most important clubs in the bag are the wedges. I am passing on my love of the game for each of my 5 kids. ( 16,9,7,4,2.5). My passion/obsession for the short game ( 120 and in) has resulted in my kids making up short game contests in our back yard. I love creating all kinds of short game shots, high and soft, low and crisp, bump and run, landin "like a butterfly with sore feet", hittin out of deep rough, hitting off of concrete etc etc.. I can't even imagine what shots these wedges would allow one to create!

 

Golf is my escape from from a very stresful job and extremely hectic life , it is my sanity. With 5 kids, 3 weddings, 5 colleges on the horizon etc my toys come last, very last. My current set is more than 5 years old ( im still playin with a Titelist 975D driver and with some iron shafts bent at the hozel.)

 

The mileage these clubs would get with my family could only be measured on a galactic scale. ( Yes they would likely need to be regrooved and regripped a few times, but they wouldnt ever leave the family).

I would love these custom built wedges because I love to spin the ball and rip the cover off them Queue up scapel-sharp max box grooves, milled face. I hate the grinds on most retail wedges so Id ask Roger to give me tight zero bounce grinds with lots of relief on the heel side.

Recently I put a set of the X-Forged wedges - 54 and 60 C Grind into my bag and these are by far the best wedges I have played since my old 588's. That being said I would love to work with Mr. Cleveland to make sure that I am properly fit and set up so that I know the wedges that I am playing are very best for my game and my swing.

 

Who wouldn't want to work with a legend, especially as they aspire to get to a scratch player by the time they are 30.... only 17 months away and 7 shots off the handicap to go...

I have been playing the gun metal 588s for years now and I still dont want to put them away. They have definately been showing the wear though. It would be an honor to work with the true master of wedges and have an even more unbelievable set to replace the 588s.

I play X-forged wedges and they have transformed my short game. The wedge grinds and bounce configurations have been perfect all winter long for me. It's getting to summer and I play on a links course which is hard and fast with tight lies.

 

Is there a compromise on bounce and grinds? I don't know and would probably never have the opportunity to find out if it were not for this amazing offer.

 

Mr Cleveland played at my home track last year at the time of the Open so may have some insights and advice.

Right now I'm playing an old Ping 54 deg wedge, I also have my Pw and Sw from my dunlop set. If I had a set of these wedges I could take my game to the next level, I'm getting better with my short game, but I can't get the spin id like with the wedges I have. Also to have that level of custom work and service is something that I could probably never experience otherwise if it wasn't for this contest. I would be honored to have a set of these wedges in my bag.

wow this would be awesome. I'm a callaway guy, so these would fit right in with all my other sticks. I could use some new x forged for sure. with some nice project x 6.5 spinners instead of those nasty stock steel shafts in my wedges right now, lol. I play a 54-60 right now, but I would like to switch to a 52-56-60. also some nice custom sole grinds would be amazing. I love Roger Cleveland's work. I switched to his design when he signed on to Callaway. He is an artist, and with imitation being the highest form of flattery, his designs continue to be pirated and copied by most manufacturers. As for the question of why I deserve a shot at these....let me put it to you simply....I've had a really rough school year (I teach). But most of all, to paraphrase Stuart Smalley, "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and dang it...I deserve a shot."
