Being current owner of Wilson Ci7s..... the new clubs are fugly! The old Ci6 & 7 wern't totally minimalist with the badging and stuff, but I thought it was tastefully done.

Gawd I hope they clean up the backs before they release them. I'd think they'd be a huge step backwards for then, no matter how much better they played then the old Ci6 & 7.
Thanks for the chuckle scrapper. I have noticed a disturbing trend from all the manufactuers with their badging. Is there some contest to see who can make the gaudiest looking cavity badging in the buisness?

This from the guy with the king of ugly irons! CG7 yecchh!!! :russian_roulette:

Just joshing, it's fun to give each other crap. Whatever gets the ball in the hole. I don't mind the blue on my B'stones because the rest of the irons looks so great. It's one thing to have a little paintfill, but another to have a big crazy badge or black plastic cavity or red gel insert in the back!

Are you sure about that??????

As someone who's lived with the MX-19's for over a year, I'm just going to say that they aren't even CLOSE to as ugly as the Wilsons Ci9. Show me where the Mizunos have more black plastic than a geek's homemade Darth Vader costume and then we'll talk.

Wilson needs to take a little time and re - identify there market. I mean what are the demographics they are targeting? They had a homerun with Fat Shaft Technology. They provided a player with Game Improvement and distance through strong lofts and low torque shafts. They need to gain exposure on the Tour again. Those FG's, as good as any club out there. But these CI's. Who is going to play them?

How is W/S any different than any other OEM marketing to different level of players?

The Ci series are a good middle ground GI iron between the D series (SGI) and P series (player's CB's).

I play the Ci7s and had the Ci6s before it. I'm not really liking this new Ci design. You can see how WS followed those TW9 wedges--these Ci9s look somewhat similar.

I was anticipating the release of these Ci9s, wondering what they would look like, but I think Ill be sticking with the 7s, which I absolutely love. Not that I have the money to buy new clubs, even if I wanted to...

The only issue is that if you were to play in any USGA events the Ci7s would not be conforming while the 9s are. It may not be a factor for many, but it's something to think about.

Now that you say it, the Wilsons look better than both of those. In fact there are a lot more you could add to the list than that as well.

What? Who says the Ci7's are non conforming?

They fit well with the Tw9. From a marketing standpoint, I think Wilson knows what they're doing and whom they want to sell each set of clubs they design to. They cannot afford to only appeal to "purists" like many on this forum.

Unfortunately Wilson is not (yet) being taken seriously in the US but they are a big player in Europe. Give them a few more years and their image will improve significantly. Look at what they do in tennis, where they are undisputed #1, there's a bunch of guys in this company that know what they're doing.

The most serious problem that Wilson is facing in the US and Canada is the retail guys, the guys who actually sell the clubs to customers, the GolfTown's or Edwin Watts' clerks, do not take this company and its products seriously, their mindset is all about TM and other big guys and that's what they offer. The average Joe will buy Wilson any day, - if it is offered to him and if the features and benefits of Wilson's products are explained to him.

Wilson has.

Besides, aside from the Ping Eye 2's being grandfathered in, I don't think that any of the current OEM offerings are conforming.
Learning to play on Wilson Staff blade hand me downs, there is no company I want to see regain prominence more than Wilson. The Fat Shaft line had them back on the map, then ???
Honestly I think what killed W/S in the States was losing Vijay years back. My understanding is that Vijay gave W/S a figure and W/S told him no. IMO that was the beginning of the demise of W/S in the States.

TempusFugit, we can agree to disagree about Joe Public buying W/S over the other big OEM's. Assuming the big boxes start to carry it (big assumption) I really do not think that Joe Public will pick a piece of W/S equipment (ball or club) over TM, Cally, Nike or Titleist. Fortunately for Wilson, golf makes up a very small portion of their product portfolio.

Your tennis reference is a good one though b/c Wilson has been a HUGE player in the tennis market for years. They never lost their credibility in tennis like they did in golf.
