Callaway X-Tour

Recommended Posts

I tell you I've been a blade lover forever. Nothing looks better than a thin top lined blade, but Im not playing as much anymore and I started a search for cavity back. I've hit a bunch and the best compromise is the x tour. It is the closest looking club to a blade with all the forgiveness of a game improvement club. It is really amazing how straight and forgiving these are. I've got a set on order and they should be in soon.

I am in love!

I have had the X-tours for 2 weeks now and I can honestly say they are officially in the bag for the season. I have had only had 3 rounds but many sessions at the range and cant get enough of these heads. I had them "Kwok'ed" with S-400's at D2. Had the Lehmans side by side with them and cant find the willingness to go back to my lehmans.

They have added a tremendous level of confidence. I find them MUCH more forgiving on the off center hits, while not sacraficing much more than looks and some feedback. The x-tours are shorter from heel to toe, but MUCH wider on the sole and topline. Look like they are short and stocky irons. The grinds are weird also. As the Lehamns had some grinds on the leading edges over the 300 retails, these X-tours have a simular relief. Also the bounce seems much more pronounced than the 300 tours.

Sure the toplines look like Cally's but after a while I find that I like it. It seems to be a bit embarrasing after months and even years of praising the thin topline features of my favorite heads, to praise the polar opposite. What can I say other than I like these heads a lot. I have no reason to hype them. And I try not to hype clubs to justify the buy.

I am hitting these things awsome. I can easily work the ball both ways and control the trajectory with ease.

After many hours of hitting rocks the looks are favored over the TM 300's. Not to knock the best forged iron to date the Tour TM 300 series but these heads are in the bag.

The Ho in me and the honeymoon has got me bad. I hope the Cally's can last the test of time. If not back to the Lehmans, no problem. Cant see that happen though. These heads are the latest in the iron technology. Just as the 460cc drivers can give forgiveness with out dramatic disadvantages, the X-tours are adding too many pros w/o many cons.

If you can play a wider, stouter, thicker iron head than you wont be disapointed here.

Just played these for the first time today and I must admit Callaway did one hell of job with these sticks.. personally I think they set up great, feel great and are incredibly forgiving.. what more can you ask for... I know it too soon to tell, but the satin lehmans have moved to the back up position

I had just bought the x-18 pro and then found out that the x-tour was coming out. I hit them at a Demo day last week and had to have them. So I traded in my x-18 that was one month old. I took a beating but i had to have the Tour. I have ordered the x-tour with the rifle flighted shafts. I had them in my x-18 and sure liked the rifle flighted shaft.

I didn't see this post before.......you have got to be kiddin' me. The TM ho that you are and now this "satanic" switch to Callaway? I'm ashamed and disappointed.

Kiddin' ya bro...glad you like 'em. I'm tempted too.

From 200 yards and in--I feel I can hit every green with ease..

I've never hit a more forgiving iron thats loaded with feel and as easy to hit as a hybrid wood.

I think he said more forgiving than Lehmans. No chance they feel anywhere near as good. Very nice effort by Callaway though

Very forgiving for a smallish clubhead. Nice looking for Callaway even with the thick topline. Somewhat lacking in the feel department. Certainly worth a look

It is very good club. I went back to my 32's and they are very solid but much more exacting. The X-tours put me closer to the hole. Absolutely hitting more greens and making more birdies :D

Josh-is that you? I have my second set-I felt like I had to play the 32's or J33combos but got another set of X-tours and adjusted the lie and loft this time-stronger loft, and they have been great. You cannot help but hit more greens. They really go where you want them to go, even the mishits with minimal yardage loss :cheesy:

beautiful face and head shape to look at from address, but that unfortunately is were my love for these ends! topline is too thick, sole is too wide and there is a lot of bounce on them. forgiving yes, distance was great but the feel is hollow and not like a normal forged player cb.

sorry guys no love here for cally! :idhitit:

I fell head over heels in love with these irons, I thought that I had found my irons for the rest of my golf days. Since then I have come back down to earth. I agree that they are the best Callaway iron that I have ever played. I am switching back to my 681's this week though, I need to have mine tweeked, I would like them to play a bit heavier. Overall, a great iron. I think I like my old irons better.

Have had the x tours in the bag for the last two months, I only played three times in July, but OMG :vava: I sold my tity 690.cbs because I like these sooooo much. I put the Project-x in, just like my titys and am very happy with the feel. These clubs are heavy, but extremely solid. If you order a set, get the right shaft. I have fitted a number of players and no one has ordered the DG, rifle and DGSL are a popular choice. These are not true blades, but you can work the ball. Three cheers to cally for there effort. ;)

just won a gift cert and bought these new, I had Taylormade Rac MB's (5 HC) and thought I would try these out. Love them, not too offset so you can still work the ball somewhat and very forgiving. Excellent to look at as well as the others x-18 were way to offset for my taste.

I have had mine for almost a year and got them from callaway with project x 6.0's in them. I love the irons, but the shafts felt harsh and dead on short feel shots. So I recently had Joe Kwok put Tour Concept X1's in them and I was able to play with them this past week and absolutely love this shaft. It has a soft feel and great ball flight with all of the irons. The long irons get a great trajectory and land soft on the greens. I have a great feel back now with short irons and knock down shots. If you enjoy a smooth feel on the iron shafts I would definitely go with this one.

Had a range shootout with X Tour, RAC LT, Slingshot Tour.

X Tour killed them dead. Better feel, more forgiving, more accurate, mo' everythang. The LT gets much love but none from me. Totally overrated. The Slingshot was good enough not to be called Slingshit but not in the class of the X Tour.

I think Callaway is evil like George Bush Jr but the X Tours are an excellent iron. The Dynamic Gold matched up with it synergistically.

I have had 2 range sessions and two 18s and although still not really golf weather here in Mich, I really like these with DNGs300.Really great irons. And this from a guy who has had 15 different sets in last 10 years.Fwiw I got a set played 10 rounds for a fair price. With patience you can get them faily reasonably.

I have had mine about two weeks. I have played the best blade ever made!! Titleist 731's PM, yes I am a lefty. I have played a lot of golf this year and maybe was getting a little lazy with my swing but my blades were just not feeling the same as the start of the season. (all me thou!!) I heard great things about these irons so I picked up a set. I like the look, yes a little thicker top line but already knew this coming in. What was surprising is they are a very soft forging. Great feel!! 731's are set up 2 degrees strong so I lost a little distance and had to make ajustments. All in all they are a great feeling club. Hopefully they work out well enough until my swing gets back to normal.LOL

Likes: Where to start? Being my first set of Forged Irons, I would say my favorite part is the feel of a ball hit pure. It’s nice to also have an option of Shafts beyond Uniflex shipped standard and not be delayed as custom order. While these are “players” irons they definitely have more than enough forgiveness to really be on the Game Improvement side as shots a tad thin still get up in the air or a little towards the toe still go straight. Also, it's the first set of Callaway Irons to come standard with real grips, the Callaway Rubber Grips are horrible.

Dislikes: I can’t hit them like Phil Mickelson

Quality: As with most things Callaway, the construction is top notch. I have played 6 Rounds with these now, and hit too many balls at the driving range to count, and everything is holding up like a champ.

Summary: I was really apprehensive about purchasing these clubs. I’m a high handicapper (18) and everyone I spoke to, including 2 club fitters, tried to steer we towards a more Game Improvement Iron. I Owned or Demo’ed BB’04’s, X-18, X-18 PS, Fusion, and Fusion Wide Soles and the results I got with the X-Tours were the best fit.

After owning these for a few weeks and playing about 6 rounds with them I am completely in love with these clubs and do not regret my purchase at all. They are the first Iron I have used that is just dead-on accurate and very predictable with distances.

I’m still on the fence about the shafts I chose. I picked the TT Dynamic Gold S300. While my swing speed dictated a Regular Flex, I had a tendency to spray the ball a bit where the Stiff Flex didn’t give me that. Problem is I lost about a half of club/length in distance over the Regular Flex and the Stiff was a bit heavier, but to me the accuracy was more important. These are weaker lofts than other GI Clubs, but I didn’t find any noticeable loss in distance over the X-18’s with the uniflex shafts.

Are these Players Clubs or are they Forged Game Improvement? Probably somewhere in-between. I don’t think they are the unforgiving low handicap clubs that they are marketed as. These are forgiving (not BB'04 forgiving), but if your iron striking is good and you keep you impact around the center of the face and want some forgiveness, these are just awesome!

I have owned 15 sets of top of the line OEM forged players irons in last 10 years. For me my Xtours are the best of the bunch.I think I may actually play these next year( two years in a row would be a first). They combine a unique combo of playability and forgiveness.Regarding your shafts.I always have played DNG S300 ,which I originally had in xtours.Callaway reshafted them to DNG SL S300 (for free mind you) and I really like the set up. You may want to think about that option.Enjoy your sticks.

after reading so many positive reports on the x - tours, was quite reluctant to post my personal thoughts on the irons. just tried out the x - tour with r300 shaft. Hereby are my fair share of experience:-

- the forge aren't as soft as the mizuno's and the titleist

- the off centre hits arent as forgiving.

- the badge does not look refined enough.

In general the feel and the playability does not appeal to me.

The real deal lefty review on these x tours:

Player profile: low single digit lefty, high launch mid/high spin player who likes controlling trajectories and working the ball.

PROS: Forged, good looking, low offset, forgiving and of course available lefty!

CONS: Impossible to hit proper knockdowns, TOO MUCH BOUNCE, thicker sole and topline than thier target market prolly wants, not very good with those delicate players club shots that require precision - I felt like I was trying to pick up a sewing needle with mittens on.

This is a nice game improvement iron that leans towards the players catagory but dont expect more than that as far as shot/ball control, but high and straight is good too. This sole is flat wrong period for many many golfers and thee should have been a happy median somewhere else instead of where this sole config ended up. Unless you need alot of bounce in your specs(upright/steeper swingers) this set is not for pickers (flatter swing planes)or people who tend to hit it thin every so often (because this will happen alot). The forged feel is different, not bad just different due to the 2 peice construction and a hollow back - just not the solid powerful feel/sound of a single hunk of molded carbon steel.

I give it 3/5. They should have made 2 versions but not a bad initial forray into this market sect.

Just got back from hitting these and I'm in love. I have a more upright stance (clubs will be adjusted 2* up) and so for me, these are just fantastic. I hit them back to back w/ the R7 TP and X-Forged (and my current sticks, Mizuno MX20) and they were so far out in front it was not even funny. Sure, they won't be the best for knockdown shots but beyond that I felt like I could do no wrong w/ them in my hands.

Great clubs and SOOOO much better for my game than either of the current hot clubs (R7 TP/X-Forged).
