Mine's more than several times that.

The value in this 2009-started topic is probably very low, at least for those on this forum.

Pardon my segue, but I hope it prompts folks to really examine their home insurance (rider) coverage on their clubs for current replacement value. For a few bucks more, I added on breakage and replacement with no deductible, especially as my clubs will be joining me on vacations by air.

 • 2 weeks later...

Driver: Bstone J33 460 10.5 Diamana Blue 63x (used) - $175
Hybrid 1: Cally Razr Hawk Tour 18 Matrix Altus x (new head/used shaft, accounting for cost of previous hybrid and money made selling ad-di from cally and old head) - $145
Hybrid 2: Adams original peanut 22 Matrix Altus x (used) - $175
Irons: Bridgestone J33 Combos 4-pw (new) - $300 (ridiculously underpriced at my club for some reason)
Wedges: Titleist Vokey 54 & 58 (new) - $260
Putter: Scotty Fastback 1.5 (used) - $165

Total: $1220. I thought I'd be under since most of my purchases were used and the irons were such a steal, but the numbers don't lie. With my old (free) putter I won in a tournament which might be going back in the bag soon due to issues with the scotty, I would be pretty close. I'm really happy with the quality of clubs and shafts I've gotten for the price, but I'm about to shoot well above my total with a new driver and 3 wood. I feel like I'm sacrificing distance due to the lack of forgiveness and high trajectory of the j33 driver, not to mention the fact that after playing it for 5 years it's probably seen its better days, so a new driver is right around the corner (cleveland 290?). A 3 wood that I can hit from the tee and fairway (tour edge, adams, callaway?) is next, although with the unexpected length I'm getting from the cally hybrid, that is less of a concern.

Everything in my bag total is probably not worth much more than a couple hundred bucks....at the time I bought them, well, that's a different story.

Odyssey Dual Force 552 (brass version) - I bought this in '94 for around a hundred bucks. Probably worth about $30 now.
Adams GT2 irons - $350 in 2006. Admittedly, I got ripped off. Worth about 70 now.
Cleveland Sport OS 3 and 5 woods - bought in 06, paid 220 for the pair. Probably worth 50 together now.
Adams Tom Watson wedges - Paid 110 in 05-06, these have had a rough life. Probably worth whatever scrap metal goes for anymore. Current value let's say $5.
Nike Ignite driver - Paid 330 new in 04, I see them on ebay for around 50 bucks in VG condition.

So, total retail around 1,140, current value about 205. And I thought cars were money pits. :stink:

My bag's at $1,799 excluding 2 more clubs I'll be getting - which will probably add another $200 - $300.

I've spent almost as much on other misc. stuff.

$215 cart bag, $250 rangefinder. $150 shoes. $150 or so in shorts and shirts. Another $150 in golf balls, tees, towels, club head brush, etc etc.

I find apparel to sting the most. I've got great deals on eBay - I can't imagine ever paying $60 for 1 Nike shirt.

Hrmm..

Started the year with hand me down clubs - $0

Retail Payed
Driver - $400 $150
Putter - $100 $100
Woods - $500 $250
New Irons - $400 $225
Wedges - $250 $125
Hybrid - $200 $50

Total: $1850 $900

I made the cut ahhhh. Of course this doesn't include the new shoes I had to buy due to extreme discomfort and the new bag I want to get soon.

Let's see:
R7 425 - $0 (was a valentines day gift from the wife)
Aldila shaft in said driver - $9
Mizuno F50 3w with Aldila shaft - $129
Callaway X 2h - $7 (got a $250 callaway gift card from lending tree when I bought my house)
Nike PC Tour 3-PW and S400 shafts - $225
Cleveland 53* wedge - $20
Vokey 56* wedge - $20
Oddesy putter - $100
Grand total - $510

I just dont see the allure in spending top dollar on brand new stuff when the same stuff can be bought much cheaper used. I'm the same way with cars. I've had 1 new vehicle of the 9 that I have owned.
I feel the same way! Until I get down to a +2 or lower I can't see spending 5X's as much making that much of a difference.

I'm at $975 just with my irons and putter alone. Irons are 5-pw and that's before I decided to put C-tapers in them. I'm afraid to calculate the rest...

It never fails to amuse, the d*ck sizing that goes on in this forum. We don't care how much you spent on your bag.

Purely out of curiousity I would be intrigued to see who has the lowest handicap with a sub $1k bag v most expensive bag with a high cap!

I sit around $870 for my bag- have been down to a 5 with it. currently out about 9 as I have been travelling and too busy at work to be getting out regularly and when I do get to the course it always seems to be in a rush.

I still think there has never been a better time for buying clubs than now. Even if you dont go second hand you can get great deals on new stock on clearance. Sleepers like the VRS woods are $160 and $110 for Driver 3 wood. GI Redlines with 2-3 hybrids at $220- S3 Cobras, Wilson Ci11 etc at $300. Plenty of decent sub $100 putter- aka Cleveland Classics- older Odysseys etc

Well I've completed the transition from almost-all-Titleist to totally-all-Callaway, if you count an Odyssey putter as "Callaway".

$249 for Callaway (Preowned) Razr X 5-PW
$41 for a Callaway (Preowned) Razr X "S" wedge

$75 for a Callaway (new) "A" wedge

$62 for a Callaway (Preowned) Fusion "L" wedge

$60 for a Callaway (Preowned) Fusion FT-3 Driver

$82 total for Callaway (Preowned) Fusion 3W, 5W ($41 each)
$32 for a Callaway(Preowned) FT-Hybrid #4, 23-degree

$90 for a Callaway (new) Backstryke Marxman putter

That's a total of $691 for the 14 clubs. I also have a Razr X HL 4-iron that was 60-some dollars but I don't carry it and the 4-hybrid at the same time.

However, except for the "L" wedge, 4-hybrid and putter each purchase was accomplished with a trade-in of older gear. So the 5-PW, SW iron set cost me a net of around $30 after trading in an old set of X-20 graphite-shafted irons and a couple wedges. The driver and fairways were paid for by a trade of Cleveland launcher driver and fairways. Miscellaneous other wedges and such traded on a couple other items. So I'm out of pocket about $190 for those three clubs plus a few dollars shipping on the trade-ins. Call it around 300 bucks net cost.

Still, that's a $700 bag in round numbers. Gotta love Callaway Preowned, along with the fact that clubs from circa 2006 are still very high-tech, high-performance sticks. Remember when we thought composite-crown drivers, woods and hybrids were rocket science?

Driver 1200

3 wood 250

Rescue 199

Irons 1000

wedges 300

putter 300

TOTAL ABOUT 3249

POST SHOULD CHANGE TO 3000 CLUB

Probably around 4k if I had to guess sad.gif $1800 driver, $800 putter, $1500 irons, $400 wedges, GPS, etc... It's a nice set-up, I should do a WITB with pictures.

This thread is too cool...had to give it a shot even though it's a couple months dead:

USED Titleist 910D 50g Bassara S shaft--330.00
USED Adams F12 3w--80.00
USED Adams A12 Hybrid 3i--150.00
USED Mizuno MP-67 4-PW--250.00
USED Titelist Vokey Spin-Milled Oil Can wedges 52* & 58*--50.00 each
USED Cameron Studio Stainless fastback 1.5 w/headcover--$100.00

Total= $1010

The scary thing is that, new, this all would cost roughly $2500.00
