Playing cold

Went out today and played 18 at the local muni. Only three other guys on the entire course. Possibly because it was 34*F :rolleyes:
Anyway - I wore four layers, a tee shirt, turtleneck, rugby and sweater, and was perfectly comfortable.

Of course, the sun being out certainly helped. But the club cleaning bucket had a layer of ice, as did a few of the shady spots with casual water.

Anyone else out playing in the cold?

Do you just club up twice? How do you adjust your distance for cold weather?

I only play with a heater when it is under 40 and windy. But between 35-45, I have a few hand warmers in my pockets...

For me 38-40 and above with no wind and I'm good to go. A tee shirt, turtleneck, and a golf shirt with a golf jacket that blocks wind and Im actually warm.

Long underwear and sometimes even jeans when there are few people on the course... *Gasp!*

No problems at all with some thermal under-armor on legs and arms, golf shirt, rain pants & jacket and a beanie. I've been playing in the 34-36 degree range this year no problem. It kinda sucks when the greens are frozen and you can't get a ball to stick from anywhere The key is to aim for the yard just in front of the green so the ball one-hops onto the surface.

Played today and it was 34*F when we started and the wind was blowing. The shining sun helped take the bite off the wind. Biggest issue was getting the golf balls warmed up so they didn't feel like frozen rocks. The fairways and greens were pretty hard, and getting the tee into the ground was a task.

Playing golf with family in the Heartland on December 16th is a winner no matter how you look at it!

Played today and it was 40 when I got to the course with wind chill about 36. I always play in the winter! I wear my under armour leggings and long sleeve shirt with slacks and a golf shirt and a pull over. Need to get me a beanie to keep ears warm.

I played last year when it was 32*, but no wind and all sun and was comfortable.

Played today as well. 36* and Sunny. I can do that! I wore sweat pants with my FJ rain pants over them with some under armor and a long sleeve polo, plus an FJ jacket. Wool knit cap on as well...oh...and winter gloves. I was perfectly comfy as well as moblie. I love golf in all weather.

Played with a heater last Friday. But, it was 22 out. Kinda like playing real links golf, bounce the ball onto the green, let it roll out. The really tough part is judging the bounces you get off of the ponds that you have to land on to hold the 9th and 12th greens .

Call me a wuss, but I don't go out to play in the rain. It's simply no fun, and I hate to have to deal with emptying the bag and drying everything out later.

I started up one, but quickly realized I needed to go up two. We've had a fair amount of precipitation lately - six inches of snow a week ago that had all melted and rain early in the week - so the course was real soggy. Very little roll on the fairways. The greens, however, were in excellent condition.

Never used heaters before and 34 is definitely doable, today however the wind chill was in the single digits...that is too cold for me.

I just bought a cart cover and Coleman Golfcat heater (Golfsmith has an on-line discount for the combo).

40* is no problem - I walk, use hand warmers and wear a shirt and sweatshirt under a fall hoodie jacket which I remove for each shot. Took a riding cart and used the combo last Saturday - 34* and a slight wind, needed a phillips head screwdriver to get the tees in the ground and you couldn't fly the ball onto most greens. I was comfortable, the round was enjoyable and my score was better than usual for winter golf.

We're supposed to get a snow storm tomorrow (Philly suburbs) so I am tempted go out today. Right now it's supposed to be 30-34 today with 10 mile winds. Might be too cold (for me) but with the snow coming, looks like golf is done for quite awhile.

I'll play in any temp along as there is little or no snow on the ground. The west side of Michigan near the lake has 12 inches of snow, but, so far, here it is skiffs of snow here and there. It will be 32 at noon here so I plan on going out. Walking is the best way to enjoy cold weather golf; I don't get cold at all.

Where I play (OBX in NC) there is always wind. But if the sun is out and the wind isn 't blowing that bad and it stays above 30*, we play. Most of the guys I play with have cart covers and heaters. I don't like covers...I'm a big guy and some covers are hard for me to squeeze thru the door. If it's cold out I wear fleece pants (sweats that aren't banded at the bottom), thermal top, golf shirt, sweater vest and long sleeve wind shirt or a rugby shirt. Wool hat is a must, pair of Oakleys to keep the wind and sun out of your eyes as well as mittens to wear between shots...If you don't dress up you have to put the clubs up for about 4 months. I'm retired and like to play every week so I dress up....Gotta love the game....

My 14 year old daughter and I played today in 32* weather here in FL. We lived in WI/MN through many cold winters so today was a wind shirt over a polo, baseball caps, and wool slacks. No heaters or covers for carts down here. We wanted to walk as we were the only ones out there, but it's too far between holes. We got a lot of stares from the staff all bundled up in "blizzard" wear!!!!
