Can a stamp be removed

Stamping in the cavity is not easy to remove. The normal process would be to weld over the stamp and then grind it smooth. This can lead to the Ghosting effect mentioned. I've seen it done though, normally the putter get's refinished at the same time so that helps cover the ghost image if there is one

Want to revive this post to hopefully gain some insight. I picked up this Betti that I really like; however, the previous owner’s initials are stamped into the face. I reached out to NorCal and he said he’d have to remove quite a bit of weight, which I don’t mind as it’s already in the heavier end. But ultimately didn’t feel comfortable doing it as he didn’t think I’d be happy with the end product. I did reach out to Betti directly but haven’t gotten a response. So, my question, is there any other company I should consider to possibly take on this task? What I’m finding is the depth of the fit face is the biggest problem. But would a complete remill of the face be an option? 4FF7A53A-0DF9-4612-B8EE-E8EBC2EE26AD.jpeg.011c89bcd722f67646d61902fc5c52d0.jpeg

Man, I'd say just remove the paintfill but ya already did

I had a few that had initials and I just did that.

For most of them, I didn't find it worth the cost or the loss of weight/milling/etc to be worth it.

I did have one tour putter refinished at the cameron custom shop before the cost went way up

they welded over the initials and it looked just like new after it was done

It was a tour BB, so there was no worry to me about loss of milling, or weight (as it has weights on the bottom)

Yeah the amount of money that you're going to dump into that to remove 3 stamps is not going to be worth it. Now maybe Bettinardi can but again what they'll have to do will be a lot of work.

Reach out to Ken Flannigan. He does this type if work. You'll have to do a full refinish aswell. I would guess the whole job would be near $300

Yeah, it’s not overly noticeable without paintfill. I figured Betti would be able to do it but maybe not - I’ve seen NorCal remove initials from the face before but those were with “flymill” faces. I will say I got it on the cheaper side as I calculated the refinish into the buying price.

@5hort5tuff thanks for the suggestion. I’ll look into it

I’d leave it. Just tell everyone it’s Bettinardi’s version of the PLD stamp, just way more rare.

I can understand that it may bother you. To be honest, it would probably annoy me also. However, based on the color of the metal and no paint I don't even think I'd notice it was there if I was playing with you.

I feel like you would have to literally point it out to me and let me bring it close to my face before I could even see that something was stamped there.

I think the more I discuss it, the more I’m leaning towards leaving it be. I did reach out to Ken Flannigan to get his input but as others have said, it might not be worth the cost and amount of work.
