Does anyone else feel that the Vokey Wedge is too heavy?

Let me start off by saying that I actually like heavy shafts in my irons and woods however, when it comes to wedges I like a litte bit ligher of a feel. I was wondering if anyone else feels that the Vokey wedge head is too heavy? I have been using RAC wedges for quite sometime and I feel that these wedges have the right weight for what I am looking for. I am at the point where I need to replace my wedges and I currently have a Scratch wedge in my bag but I still in the trial stage with it.

 

Does anyone feel this way too? If so, what are you using?

YES, that is why I switched back to Cleveland wedges and my wedge game came back!

I went to the Black CG14's with KBS Tour shafts. Had them custom built with the shafts PURE'd etc.. Great wedges!

I actually switched away from cleveland to vokey because I thought the new CG's were too light. Diffrn't strokes, fo shure.

Dang, I was thinking the same thing. Vokeys were my first wedges because my coach said they were good so i bought them. I tend to shank alot with them because of the weight.

I have both Mizuno and Vokey wedges in my bag. The mizuno feels like a scalpel compared to the heavy, clunky vokey. I just wish Mizuno would make a low bounce 58* so I could ditch my Vokey. I really don't use the vokey much, the mizuno gets all the work 100 yrds and in unless I need to get over trouble and I'm short sided. Try a mizuno MPT-10, I love mine.

That's one problem with stock Vokey wedge using "wedge shafts", or S200 shafts.
These light weight shafts make the head swing heavy and throw off the balance of the club. Vokey's with S300 shafts swing and play better than with "wedges shafts" or S200 shafts.

For ten bucks, i just had my vokeys ported, in other words drilled out weight from the head, many times this is done with two holes on the back of the wedge, and this process is very popular among tour players and not only makes the wedge lighter, but moves the CG slightly up

Didn't know that, pretty cool info.

As for the OP, Vokey Wedges are heavier than other wedges. Like my SV Tour is really light compared to my vokey but they are awesome when chipping and pitching. I don't have any problems with my wedge shots though caused by the weight of the club.

I have no problem with my vokey's. I find them to
be particularly well balanced. For myself, They really
deliver around the greens. Much nicer than the CG12's
they replaced.

2 Things:

What do you like about lighter wedges?

I had the Callaway X Forged with the MD grooves and I think you would love them. (I hated them b.c I've played vokey's for the last 6 years and I like the heavier weight)

I've also tried the Ping Tour wedges and they are lighter too imo. This promoted a stupid high ball flight for me with not a lot of spin.

I'm with puttingmatt. I felt mt cg12's were wat too light and i would hot them thin. love my vokey weights. that's why i switched to them.

Love my Vokeys - Almost there with the VR as the top wedge. I love the weight in the 56.

I play vokeys with S400 shafts and I think it helps with the head weight. I agree that they are heavier than other wedges, but I like that. I like the weight on the less than full shots.

My issue with the weight of the vokeys is feeling the weight of the head on the full shots. What to do??

Am I one of few that switched away from retail Vokeys because I felt they were too light for my liking? Honestly.

I never could feel the head of Vokey's.

I shank them alot for some reason. Somedays i hit them well and some days i can only make 1 out of 10 decent looking shots with them. I think it's mostly a swing fault of mine or being fatigued but also the weight difference from my irons to my wedge throws me off. I just started playing 1 year ago so i probably would have been better off using the cavity back wedges that my set offered.

I'm actually thinking of going with at least 1 Vokey wedge to try at first with my KBS tour shaft. If I feel that it's too heavy, I will get the ports drilled in.
The new VR wedges are an option too. Does anyone know the release date of these?

I think evryone would have a different opinion on this some heavy some people light. I like the the weight more weight the better. But whatever works for you go with it.

The vokeys come in s200, not s300 dg? Where did you get this info?

Stock Vokey's come with a shaft marked "wedge shaft" or "S200". It's too light a shaft for the weight of the heads, so the balance is off kilter, and the clubs swing "head heavy".
But. any retailer may order Vokeys with S300 shaft. No upcharge and the heavier shaft is a better match for the wedge heads.

I find that the heavier Vokey head is better out of the sand campared to a lighter weight wedge.
